tips on how to get a roller blind to work.

Featured Replies

Just had a roller blind installed in the laundry to keep out sun and rain. It's the same style you see on shops everywhere in Thailand, just a metal pole top and bottom with heavy plastic for the blind. Has a pulley each end at the top and rope running through and wrapped around the pipe or pole at the bottom. I can get it to roll up halfway but then the blind just concertinas and won't roll any further. These things are about as basic as you can get, a coconut monkey could work it. That's my other option.

Have you got enough turns of rope around the rod when the blind is down?

Are there still turns on the rod when it starts concertinaing?

Should there be turns of rope both ends of the pole at the bottom, and how do you know how many turns you need?

Yes, and the rope should come off in the same direction (either at the front or at the backof the pole).

When we do ours I just wrap a "sensible" number on, try it and if it doesn't go all the way drop it down and add a few turns.

The installer should have done this for you.

They did, don't ask me how it came undone, it was only installed yesterday.

If you don't keep the tension on the rope when "down" it may spin off the end.

Easy enough to put back.

If the OP can get it all the way down but only 1/2 up, it must be something else. (?) Is the rope engaged in the rollers? Snagging somewhere?

No, just not enough rope wound around rollers.

since the rumble last week about these monkeys and the ban of importing Thai coconuts, by the UK and others, think you find them cheap for doing the job now they also seems to get unemployed.
