Trip during the long weekend

Featured Replies

Hi! Since next week there is a long weekend, and I bought a new motorbike recently, I'll take some days off and I will have a week to go somewhere for a motorbike trip, hopefully combined with some beach time etc. I was thinking about going south from Bangkok to Chumphon, go to Koh Tao for 2-3 days, and back Chumphon to Bangkok. Do you have some other interesting routes for 7 days trip from Bangkok? Any ideas? ????

Hi

if it's your first motorbike trip don't be too ambitious

plan only short steps for each day in the firsts days and see how it goes

don't forget it's the raining season and more you go to the south

more rain you should have, the beach or a small island during a rainy day

can be extremely boring.

Be safe and enjoy your trip

Chumphon is pretty boring, although can use it for a night stop only, but I recommend stop at lively Hua Hin, a few bars , farangs and restaurants , you can have a beer and people watch (Well maybe not much with covid now!). Beach is not bad either.

Also you want to get to Koh Samui (go on ferry with your bike) or Phuket or Ao Nang near Krabi for a few days stop with some life and beach, but from Hua Hin you need another night stop, either in Surat Thani,  or go over to the other side and stay a night in Khao Lak.

As mentioned it's raining here a bit now, but not for long periods, I recommend just stop when it's raining, usually passes after an hour...

If you need any more info let me know, I have been to all those places I mentioned above with my bike in Feb/Mar this year..., I'm based in Phuket.

What bike do you have by the way...?

Bangkok --> Hua Hin --> Surat Thani --> Koh Samui sounds like a nice trip.

I did already a few motorbikes trip in the past, I will be riding on Honda CBR500. Rain is what I'm mostly afraid of, the forecasts are pretty bad for the next week.

motorbike ride on a long Thai holiday weekend.  You are a much braver man than I am mate. I specifically don't travel on Thai holidays, when the roads are full of drunken lunatics.  Good luck

Yes, good plan, that works, although Surat probably another waste of a city, I recall last year I was there for a night stop, and could not even find a place to eat late at night, everything closed at 9 or 10pm...

Forget rain forecast for this time of the year, in Phuket we usually have the opposite...!!! ? lol, most of the time rains for 30min or 1 hour , then stops for hours...

Roads are pretty empty, ideal for riding, the last long weekend of this July I ventured out to Phang Nga, it was nothing like the usual before the covid..., very quiet.

It's true about drunken Thais though, avoid riding specially at night, and watch who is coming like an idiot behind you, let them pass, or with cbr500 turn on the throttle and get away from them.

Have a nice trip....
