A Thai colleague was asking me to help her with her "Intelligent Monitor", indeed a huge and good quality monitor that has an operating system, a whiteboard program and now I've installed W 10 Pro and MS Office 2016.

Unfortunately, there's no sound. I've updated pretty much all Audio settings/applications on Control Panel. Then I saw the attached error.

If anybody could point me into the right direction, I'd be very thankful for that.

Most peripheral and device manufacturers will supply Microsoft with full of generic drivers to allow Windows 10 to detect and auto download/install them without much user intervention.

For others, you'll need to visit the device manufacture's website, search for the exact product, and see if they list an option to download support files or drivers your specific OS version. They may list help or instructions on the support page, or include a readme file as part of a downloadable app/driver .zip bundle.

As far as I'm aware did the monitors come with their unique operating system that has similar programs as MS offers.

But I needed certain MS programs and have all monitors in each classroom equal. The monitor in question did have sound before the addition of W 10 Pro and MS Office 2016.

But as you've already mentioned, I'll give it a try and check pon their website. If that doesn't turn out well, I'll just add a pair of speakers.

Intelligent Monitor

Some 'smart displays' can run autonomously in stand-alone mode (white-board only features), but also have the ability to connect to PCs to become interactive presentation displays. The setup direction should guide you in how the connections are made (HDMI and USB cables, downloading and installing helper/driver files, along with user-provided presentation software such as Microsoft Office, and/or specialty software to capture the current screen display if recording or printing is desired).

If you can provide the Make/Model of the monitor I can look up what environment and requirements are necessary for it to fully function.

Thank you very much for your detailed information. I'm not at school and won't be until Wednesday, but I think that I'll find the right driver for the system.

The trouble code shown should be the key for the missing Audio driver.

These monitors are great because you can use them either as a whiteboard, or a computer with a touchscreen. I'm not using the original operating system, but it's another option.

The only feature I do not like is the built in keyboard that somehow suc_s. I mean you have to get used to writing fast. But it's exactly what any teacher would want to make this job much easier.

Thanks a lot for your help, deeply appreciated. Have a lovely weekend!!!!!

A google search didn't find an exact match for the partial error message you provided, but portions of it hint at being related associated with a Realtek Audio hardware device (that need a proper driver to function without error or issue).

Another possibility may be a driver conflict condition, where another driver or older driver is being loaded and causing the error. If locating an exact software/driver direct from the "Intelligent Monitor" isn't to be had, then you can try troubleshooting the issue with help from the following microsoft link:

Realtek audio problem after updating to 1809 update....

"This issue may occur due to the Driver conflict after the Windows updates, we can try fixing it by reinstalling the Sound driver."

Please be aware, while a 'google search' may guide you to 3rd party 'driver download sites', they are not always your best friend. Extreme caution or avoidance is recommended to prevent unintentionally loading compromised hacked version (even if the appear to solve your immediate issue).

How is it connected? With HDMI?

In the Windows Audio setting you can set the output. Maybe currently it's set for the speakers and not the HDMI output.

Something similar to this:

It sounds like you've loaded Win10 over the previous operating system.

If you 'add a pair of speakers', to the audio-out sound jack then they too may not work as the OSes 'digital' audio subsystem is incomplete sans a working audio driver to tell it how to function.  If you ultimately can't get a working driver to give you sound output either through the internal speakers or external audio-out jack (they're the same subsystem) then the other option would be to connect a "USB Sound System" as this method would provide it's own necessary computer code (sound driver subsystem) necessary to output audio-out to a set of external speakers.

*If you have multiples of the same "Intelligent Monitor", and the sound on this unit was working previously, you should be able to start over from scratch and wipe/reinstall the software and get it functioning just like all the other units.  Sounds like something 'glitched' on this particular install leading to your current delemma, but starting over "should" rectify it. [Personally, I'd just use some 'free' backup imaging software and take a copy of a working install and restore it to the problematic unit and update the Microsoft install coded where necessary].

Additionally to above:

If you don't see the output which you think should be there (i.e. HDMI) then maybe the driver was never installed.

That driver is for your PC's graphic card and has nothing to do with whatever you connect.

If you have i.e. a AMD graphic card then look for the AMD graphic driver (including the audio driver).

I think these are actually "all-in-one" PCs that initially came with a simple whiteboard OS but have subsequently been updated to Windows 10. If they have several that are working fine, just not this one, then something went haywire when it was loading the generic Realtek audio driver. A driver update, or reinstall of the OS should cure what ails it.

Yes, but funny enough the driver update for HDMI is the part of the graphic (card) driver. That might be confusing for a normal user.

In below configuration the green driver parts are both from the AMD graphic card.

Yes, that's true, the HDMI subsystem includes Video and Audio components.

My laptop primarily uses the Video to drive the internal display, but some 'other' sound chip to drive the anemic built-in speakers and audio-out jack. But if I plug an external display into the HDMI port then I get the option to send audio to either the onboard audio or HDMI audio.

If I connect my Bluetooth headset to my laptop it breaks the sound subsystem. Poor drivers me thinks. But that's my dilemma.

Spot on!!! I've upgraded 24 units, plus five screens/ You seem to be correct as i recall a Realtek driver, better a missing, or not up to date one on another machine.

I'm aware of these websites that offer all the "driver updaters" and all other <deleted>, I won't touch it.

I'm using Kaspersky for all devises and I like it. I also use a great program from time to time called System Mechanic, plus "Spy Hunter" that will find almost all.

I never use any free programs that are always coming with other unwanted software and Hijackers.

Thanks for your time, I'll update you on this issue as as soon as I can.
