Tourists will go to a destination that is convenient and value for money.

Until the insurance and quarantine regulations are lifted , Thailand wont meet that simple criteria.

- vaccine ? who are the idiots who are going to inject something as unsafe as a vaccine made in rush without knowing the long term effects ?

- treatment ? They are looking for one against HIV since 40 years...

 

So why someone can imagine that the covid will end soon is beyond understanding.

There is only 1 solution, live with it and wear a mask until you die because of another reason !

They have very effective treatment for HIV. You can practically live a full normal life now with the medication they give. It did take 15 years though.

Why not open up for those who wish to quarantine for 2 weeks? Dont understand this. Limit space of hotels?  With so many hotels now empty, is it just corruption? I am sure many hotels be delighted to open up for business for quarantine because at least there is revenue.

It's easy to understand that you want to come here. But look at it from the Thai point of view. What is the advantage for Thailand to let you in without insurance and maybe without quarantine?

Suppose from his point of view, he would have been doing this on travel insurance, same many people. (Hopefully).

They cannot get travel insurance without travel being allowed, and many companies have excluded the pandemic cover now.

I was living there.

Until stranded abroad. 

Have retirement visa Non O. But still no sign of getting back to Thailand. 

I accept the insurance and take it on the chin, I'm 68.

ASQ is obviously not too appealing to anyone.

My pal died of AIDs last summer (in a UK specialist hospital).

His treatment didn't seem all that effective to him (or me, or his kids).

I don't follow Malaysian politics, but their leader, an ageing old figure, was coming on the BBC news saying he was going to stop China's proxy inexaction of Malaysia, and stop their hand in every single sector. I thought back then he is going to be in trouble soon.

 

Cue a few days ago i turn on the news, and he is out of power, and on corruption charges.

 

It's obvious what is going on in SE Asia. Puppet governments for China.

Obviously from the point of view of tourists, me included, it's nice when everything is easy. Visa on arrival, stay for a long time, no conditions, perfect.

But I don't blame countries when they think about what they want and if they have certain conditions. I.e. the health insurance. We read often enough about people who can't pay their hospital bills. And GoFundMe requests for paying hospital bills. Hospitals are often expensive and they want to get paid for their services. Who pays?

 

Every tourist has the choice to think where he wants to go on holiday, compare visa regulations, etc. Select the country which is suitable for you.

And in case you live here then you are not really a tourist so you should have a visa to live here long term.

 

And last but not least: Thailand is easy compared to many other countries. Let a Thai person apply for a visa to Europe or the USA, etc. That is a lot more difficult and often impossible because "back home" governments make it clear who they want and who they don't want.

Maybe you have lived in Thailand 15 years with a retirement visa, but you are classed by the Thai Govt and Immigration as an just a long stay tourist.

Each year you have to do the paperwork and have money in bank to obtain your visa....but they could just say no and off you go leave the country.

 

Please dont comment on here as thou you was born in Thailand. Always refer to yourself as a tourist when trying to comment or advise fellow forum members.

Do you know the words "work" and "work-permit"?

And have you ever heard of business visa?

Now if you combine that knowledge with reading my comments then you should figure out that I work here and have a business visa which is not the same as a tourist.

Obviously it's nice to discover new places. But I am sure many will remember their good times in Thailand and return - eventually.

Places I know, because I know them means a more relaxing time because you know at least some of the ropes and  the good, the bad , the to be avoided. Especially if  you have young kids in tow. Which a long time ago I did and we spent several summers going to the same rental at Rock, Camel Estuary, Cornwall, right on the beach

 

New places because it's much more of an adventure, more highs, perhaps more lows. 

 

Lots of places I've been once and would love to go again to deepen my experience but haven't as new places call.

They have a point; if the cost of travel/health insurance is that excessive. Pretty sure Thais won't have to fork out such silly sums to insure when visiting western nations, and if they have the appropriate paperwork, can buy land, vote etc.

Even if you have 'work permit' or 'business visa' it is just a visa. The thai govt can revoke at anytime so yes you still are a 'tourist' in Thailand.

You are not a resident therefore only live temporary in Thailand....please remember that.

You sound like an intelligent person so please observe who you are....just a farang without any rights what so ever in your temporary country of choice.
