In the old times Snowden (and that other traitor who was pardoned by Obama) they would be shot or hanged.

How "old" are these "times"? And which country are you referring to?

For the record, only one person has been executed (hanged) for treason. Ever. Interestingly his crime was tearing down the U.S. Flag.

Pretty sure we have to be in a declared war, and you need two witnesses. But don't let us stop you.

“Snowden is a spy who should be executed—but if … he could reveal Obama’s records, I might become a major fan,” Trump wrote in October 2013, in a tweet that also made reference to Obamacare.

Trump is acting under instructions from Putin. Vlad wants Snowden out of the USSR so one phone call and Trump has an epiphany. Yes I guess he is the chosen one to do the beckoning of Putin and his oligarchs with a gentle reminder of what they have on him.

We'll maybe sixteen (16), eight (8) recently, calls, and an in-person meeting in September/October, to close the deal?

As not-an-American, I will not get into the nitty- gritty!

In my opinion, Snowden was not a hero, but a whistleblower, showing the world some "amazing" things and should have been given a medal!

In that regards, pardoning him would be excellent!

But since this is Trump, I suspect some shady motives behind it, that have nothing to do with the good, Snowden did!

I mean...we all know, how the Orange Buffoon thinks about whistleblowers!

He doesn't have any principles except doing what he thinks is best for Donald Trump.

Which was what Trump supporters were saying about Harris for the last two days. But obviously this is totally different...

The former USSR, now Russia, eventually pardoned its dissidents, some of whom had sought refuge in the USA.

It is the time for the former USA, now USSA, to do the same.

Snowden simply denounced (some of) the crimes committed by US spying agencies, and should be rewarded for that, instead of being persecuted.

If one doesn't count Litvinenko, Skripal, pesky journalists and rival politicians...yes.

Trump has shown this to be true.

An interesting wedge Mr. Trump is floating with this statement...will it get some progressive and liberal voters, already not very thrilled with the Biden/Kamela ticket, in swing states to pull the lever for Trump if a Snowdon pardon is in the wind? Another three-dimensional chess move from The Donald!

More like the usual nonsense to distract from real issues and things which are unflattering to him, or harm his campaign. Nothing special about it, he's been doing it all along. As for thinking about it by himself, I'd wager it's more people on his staff/campaign.

Doubt Trump's pardon will thrill the progressive and liberals. Reason simply that his number of past pardons have been controversial and given to well known connected convicted persons who did not file a petition with the Office of the Pardon Attorney or meet the Office requirements. Yes Trump bypassed the Justice Department and the progressive and liberals know his game well that he is doing this as a publicity stunt. Moreover 54% of the public - including identical majorities of Republicans and Democrats (59% each) want Snowden prosecuted and even the young people are equally divided.

There is no "requirement" for a pardon other than a President wants to grant one. What you refer to are just administrative steps that have been put in place to manage the process; and are not Constitutionally required.

Agree that there are no legal requirement in the pardon process. It’s based on standard and like all standards provide orderly and decent conditions for the process. Trump regularly ignored the process and bypass the pardon attorney. It works against him that he persistently grant controversial pardons and do not follow the standard. People know that too well and will view this as his political expediency. Not good for him.

And others think it a good thing that he bypasses and ignores the bureaucracy and the deep state and their minions, and follows his instincts to do what he wants.

Because what he wants to do often constitutes a criminal act. Why don't you get that......explain.

That’s our Donald!pandering to the younger voters and trying to descredit the institutions that have kept us safe over the years imo he’s a wonderfull asset to anyone who wants to weaken America

Snowden is a hero in many ways !  I and many, not all, through the years, before Mr. Trumps Presidency ,cheered him on ! I would love to see him come home

" and then the furor over Snowden, the ex-National Security Agency contractor whose 2013 leaks exposed the astonishing reach of the government’s surveillance".

“There’s definitely a deep state,” Snowden told the Nation in 2014. “Trust me, I’ve been there.”
