I keep reading about 2nd wave when Thailand has not had the first wave.  The masses have to be exposed in order for this virus to become a non issue.  They either have to open up or stay in lock down indefinitely.  And no matter how long they lock down, that exposure is waiting just out side the door...

 

Unless of course there is an effective vaccine.  But that could be years if ever.

To have any impact on the economy and/or tourist industry there must be 10's of thousands entering the kingdom every day.  It is impossible to accommodate that many individuals under current quarantine process.  It just ain't gonna happen.

 

And finally, the key to this bubble, or twin country or whatever term they want to use, there has to be reciprocal benefit to the other country.  You want 10's of thousands of Chinese to visit the kingdom and the chinese government to insure they jump through all the hoops imposed by Thailand?  Then there must be 10's of thousands of Thais willing to jump through the same hoops to visit China.  There simply isn't that type demand to go to China in the circles I travel.

No Tourist is going to come under quarantine condition.

Covid-19 can’t be treated as if it has a 100% fatality rate when the real rates are significantly lower and closer to regular influenza. 

 

Pre-travel Covid-19 PCR tests are / should be sufficient enough as long as track and tracing is employed.

Combined with travel corridors from countries with low numbers should be more than sufficient to ‘control or limit’ the continued spread of this virus. 

 

Thailand has to ensure that any continued measures do not have greater negative impact than a minor localised outbreak would.

its real simple.tourists will need a clear test from home country to enter,with in 3 days then they have another free test on entry,the result will be within 48 hrs,they will go to named accommodation not the rip off hotel rates and will stay at that address,it can be a condo they live in or a hotel.once clear they go on hols.2 tests- one outside one inside.the only positives we have now are thais coming in who arnt tested before arrival.is that too difficult a concept to grasp!?

Unfortunately, they won't be taken into consideration.

 

 

Immigration have already stated that extensions are not part of the amnesty and, if not renewed by the due date. they will expire and you will need to start again.

 

 

I think there is no doubt about that so I think your expectations need to managed accordingly.

Ok cheers, it is more or less what I've resigned myself to. A real pain in the backside having to go through the full process again as opposed to the 1 day renewal.

Yes snow birds and retirees that spend 3 months at the Nana hotel. I think all of SEA have mandatory quarantine as do most countries. Of course the 2 week millionaire's won't come but better something more than sitting on hands

Tourists are not going to come in significant numbers until they open the airport up, stop asking for additional paperwork to enter, and stop requiring people to quarantine for 14 days at their significant expense. And that's clearly not happening this year, no matter what guff they put out.

 

I feel sorry for all the Thais who worked in the service and hospitality industry and are now being forced to queue to get a scoop of white rice with half a fried egg.

As we are all aware, Travel bubbles were rejected as a non starter by the PM, however as this new name "Twin countries" is a Thai initiative this will be acceptable, because Thailand's idea. Remember the whole world revolves around Thailand ???? Plus I forgot to mention the small matter of High Season, which IMHO will be a flop.
