Popular Post webfact
Pattaya: FIVE YEARS until tourism is back to previous levels, says tourism leader Picture: Sophon Cable TV A business and tourism leader in Pattaya has painted the most dire picture yet of tourism at Thailand's famous resort. Ekkasit Ngamphichet said it would be at least 4 to 5 years before tourism in Pattaya returns to previous levels. In an interview with Sophon Cable TV reported on Facebook, Ekkasit spelled out the home truths. Picture: Sophon Cable TV There are ZERO foreign tourists in Pattaya. They previously made up 70-80% of all hotel visitors. Thai domestic tourists only visit on weekends and public holidays. Consequently tourism in Pattaya has been decimated. His best case scenario for the post pandemic world was that next year might see tourism back to 60%. Picture: Sophon Cable TV But even that appeared optimistic and was based on everything going right in terms of virus control and recovery and foreign tourists wanting to travel again. He said that operators in the tourism sector needed to be ready for a long haul to recovery that would be four to five years. Businesses must plan accordingly and everyone must pull together, were his overriding messages. They can't predict the future these guys.. cos they can't make a logical decision.. I think a big problem here is the obsession with maintaining the myth of zero cases of local transmission. That may never be realistic even after years of a vaccine. A way back might be limited cases accepted as inevitable but massive quick result testing, tracing, and isolation of clusters. 27 1
Popular Post Jingthing
5 years might be somewhat pessimistic but early next year is crazy talk. We're still in the earlier phase of this. 6 1

Popular Post bkk6060
Nobody truly knows what is going to happen, but I have been surprised by all the closed, for sale, for rent, gutted businesses occurring so soon. I guess many business owners are anticipating the very long road ahead. 15 1

Popular Post JusticeGB
Just hope that Pattaya uses that time to upgrade its flooding and sewerage problems yet alone solve the annual shortage of water. 6 2
Popular Post FiveStarVagabond
I have lived in Pattaya for 9 years & absolutely love the peace & quiet. I just feel sorry for all the Thai people who have lost their jobs & are struggling to find their next meal. I wish the government would step up & help them. Here is my webcam address, check out how quiet Pattaya beach is. :) https://fivestarvagabond.com/best-pattaya-beach-thailand-webcam/ In 2.5 years I have had over 8 million visits, now that's good promotion for Pattaya. :)

They can't predict the future these guys.. cos they can't make a logical decision.. To predict the future, you need a theory. Their theories are not realistic. They consider two weeks in quarantine will not discourage. They think they can construct gated tourist towns, that this will keep the tourist in and the covid out, but it is service workers that spread the virus, often asyptomatically. They think the economy of the rest of Thailand will pick up and motor on, but tourism is the lifeblood of most of the country, not just Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Samui. They assume the economy will diversify away from tourism on its own, but even if a fundamental change were possible, it takes massive government intervention. So it seems that the government's theory is that The West will develop and distribute a vaccine before the economy goes bust or the people take to the streets. 5
GlassWayOverHalfFull
There are still tourists here and there are plenty desperate to get here. If you want tourists instantly and a lot more than previously, grant casino licences. Easy. Can I have your job now? Popular Post GarryUK
I'm loving the looks of the beach... no speedboats, no jet skis. Sadly, instead of taking the opportunity to 'clean up' by removing the criminals running them, and limiting their operation to an area around the peer, the police are helping them to tar the image of the country just so they can get their kickbacks, so they'll be back trying harder than ever to scam the few tourists as they start to return to make up for their lost revenue. Corruption rules in Thailand so it'll never be the family friendly place the authorities are ruining everything failing to create. And lets not mention the incompetence that fails to address the constant flooding, the beach getting washed away, and the sewage, as I suspect that too is because they wouldn't get the kickbacks if they had any sort of building code to adhere to. 6
