Thai Finance Minister Predee submits resignation

All ridicule and attempts at humour aside I would simply like  some  genuine transparency  in  such events.

Health reasons? Political incompatibility? Economic impossibility?

Again : could be related to the way Thailand handle so poorly tourism and expats since the Covid thing.

No realistic plan to bring tourists (but our quarantines are soo nice, come on guys ????)

Immigration still say farangs "why don't you go back to your country ?" ????

 

Guess the guy is smart, and has seen how probably this situation will last maybe years ! 

Unless gouvernement start to re-consider farangs as "clean" ???? Put some order in Immigration ransom randomness first. Avoid to make expats go away maybe hm ? Reconsider all this shut-down country plan better than "lock-down on an amazing island..."... Not easy for the later i admit, without an accurate immediate test. But things like insurance 100K$ is not good thinking for example too. Etc.

 

It's like Thailand does not know anymore how to do business since the last gouvernement. After 40-50 years being a model !

No wonder the guy does not want to stay... If draconian and non-sense rules are maintened : business is in bad shape for long.

No I am not more experienced, but that was never my job. But in my 76 years of life, living and working in 38 countries I picked up some experiences that helped me in later life. One of the things I learned was how to sort the truth out from <deleted> by listening and watching people in all walks of life.

Ex military for 25 years yes, and what the army has done so many times over the years is called treason, and the only penalty for that is one that nobody in the Thai military ever gets.

 

There are very very few people in any military are trained in running governments and countries which is why there are very few if any in the west. The last one I can remember was Dwight D Eisenhower in the USA, but by the time he stood for election he had retired and when he became POTUS he did not indulge in nepotism, nor did he order a new constitution written especially to keep him in power for 20 years. He also relied on his civilian advisors to help him run the USA successfully.

 

He came to power through a free and fair election, something that your hero also knows nothing about.

I think that i know better than Reuters about this news. As Finance Minister Predee Daochai has submitted his resignation because of the appointment government officials, level C 10 (Director-General), the purposed that Mr. Prasong Poonthanet, Permanent Secretary of Finance has signed and proposed to the Cabinet on 30 August 2020.

 

On the day of the cabinet meeting. the Finance minister want Mr. Waron Saengsanit, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office to serve as Director-General of the Excise Department but Mr. Santi Promphat, Deputy Finance Minister did not agree with him. He want Mr. Prapas Kong-ied, the director of the State Enterprise, moved to the Director-General of the Excise Department. So, this is the problems that a newcomer like Mr. Predee, who is not a career politician, would face working in representative government.

 

Anyway, i recommend you read Thailand news article from ThaiPBSworld.com or NationThailand.com for the correct information.

Bangkok Post reports: Mr Predee reportedly wanted Lavaron Sangsnit, director of the Fiscal Policy Office, for the post, but Mr Santi preferred Prapas Kong-Ied, director of the State Enterprise Policy Office.

 

Today the cabinet appointed Mr Lavaron as chief of the Excise Department, but Mr Predee resigned anyway. So what's the next step...cover our collective <deleted> and say the Co-Pres. of Kasikorn bank is incompetent. His own party stated afterwards, "We’ve always thought he wouldn’t last long because he had no political experiences".

 

He got his man appointed but still resigned. Go ahead and drink the Kool-Aid, but IMO he resigned because the financial outlook on Thailand is bleak and he's over his head.

You seem to know not so much about the power structure in Thailand Steven. It's often not easy to see the horizon while living under a coconut husk.

 

Just to give you a hint: Prayut and his friends Prawit and Anupong lost control already on all army units in Bangkok. The most powerful guy within the army is Apirat now, and, by the way, he also is a related to the most powerful faction within the Thai elite. Prayuts faction in the elite is only number two anymore, and they lost the run for the pole position already. Not much power in his hands anymore.

 

Maybe you should be prepared that Prayut might be ousted from his job soon, and then the PM of Thailand either likely will be Apirat, or they smartly will appoint Anutin, who is also member of the number 1 faction. The latter especially might be appointed as a "civil" PM after a bloodshed on the student protests, when the generals again will tell the populace their blablabla about "we are all Thais" and we "need reconcilation", and all this. Wanna bet?

 

Just sit down and think a little about it. And, will you be able to love Apirat or Anutin as much as you loved Prayut?

What's the first thing you would do if your the new Finance Minister (any country)...audit the books.  My guess is an internal audit has turned up things that are so troubling the best thing to do is resign before you are sucked into a vortex of pain and suffering. 

 

If the books are so badly cooked the whole of Thailand will feel the pain.  "When will the SHTF" iS the next Question???

Is it someone in charge of making all of the statues stand up straight? Or maybe a statue who gets to tell all the other statues what to do? Or.....?

An ex banker probably knows much more about reading financial statements than a politician. He probably went through the books of the State and saw some hogwash and decided to leave before the <deleted> hit the fan. For a very long time people have been saying that the strength of the baht seems to strong and against underlying fundamentals. Cooked books?
