Thailands motorcycle races

High 9's for a 150cc two stoke on nitrus is impressive, if I understood that to be the case. 

 

My old bike can get into 1/4 mile low 10's but it's 900cc.

The other thing I don't understand about Thailand is the skinny tyres fitted to those machines. 

 

I saw another PCX 150 today with skinny bicycle tyres looked soo... stupid, why do Thais think this way with so much information available about what to do.

Well thin tyres go faster, that's all that counts for a Thai...longer breaking distance is not important for them.

It's also why they always pump the tyres hard as a rock.

If they decide to go straight-line drag racing, on ultralight motorcycles, they will have worked it out for themselves.

Of course the configuration is not good for general purpose road work.

 

The guys you see on the road are just emulating their "heroes",

Jokes aside all I get back from  Thais is they think there faster, less wind resistance etc which is nonsense.

Most of the world know a proper drag machines have wide sticky tyres.

No brainer I suppose when it comes to no long time access to big bikes.

 

Non peds are in their culture and for them its being in their own Thai fantasy world. 

 

Still that said some impressive times for small bikes and an exclusive event for them I guess.

Maybe definition of drag race is different here, maybe they are looking at top speed rather than fixed distance, who knows...????

You've lost me, those things they call motorbikes in high 9's in the vid were run on nitrous so if they had a better tyre that gripped it'll be a better time.

IpHO, this is drag-racing at its best.

If those boys

could bring their times down

by running fatter tires,

they would.

They are not running skinnies

just to look cool.

Force = mass x acceleration.

A slight increase in traction for a fraction at start

 (where these dinky engines are making small power anyway)

doesn't overshadow reduced mass

for 9 seconds running on-the-pipe.

In drag-racing, the spinning tire acts as a clutch,

allowing the engine to rev into power band.

The easiest time gains would be using even smaller

(less massive) riders.

I'm skeptical but the commentator at the beginning of the video said 1/4 mile from what I heard but he could be wrong because there's 1/8 mile drags as well which I thought it was mainly because of the times of the small bike engines.

 

On the time board at the end it just showed time and speed. 

It seemed to me the run time on film was very short. 

I said I was impressed because it was much the same 1/4 mile time as a Hyabusa which find hard to believe.

 

A 150cc 2 stroke is similar power to a 300cc 4 stroke but nothing like the power of a 1000cc or more motorcycle in a 1/4 mile drag. 

 

There's also a 1000 yard drag.

 

I wouldn't bother going to a Thai one myself l'd find it a drag. ????????
