In these quiet times, a lot of restaurants and favourite eating places are closed. Some to never open again.

What places can TF'ers on the island recommend that are still open?

Any type of food from local somtum stall to favourite Thai, Italian restaurant.

Even the GF is getting fed up with us keep going to Krok Mai. ????

To get things started off. I like:

Salefino Italian on the bay in Bangrak.

Somtum Stall near Bangrak Garden Home

Cafe Lae Bua behind Tesco Express in Laem Din market

2 Fishes Italian in Fisherman's Village

Pa Maitree Khanom Jeen in Maenam. Coming from Bophut, turn left at Maenam traffic lights. Not sure of soi number.

Chicken and duck stalls opposite the Tourism University on Chaweng Lake Road.

Mae lampa noodle shop just along from chicken stall as above.

Haveli in Bangrak for the occasional Indian meal.

Some that are open now...
For Italian food: Antica Locanda in Bang Rak...????

For cheap good Thai dishes: Ma-Yom in Maenam Walking Street...????

For Japanese "running shushi style" buffet-experience: Shabushi in Central Festival (Chaweng)...????

For Thai-style BBQ buffet: Guru Buffet in Bo Phot (after Tesco-Lotus en route toward Lamai)...????

For western and Thai food - Pui Relax Choengmon. (Great lamb shank 260 baht)

Pizza and Italian Pecore Nere Choengmon.

Very good Thai and seafood Krua Choengmon (behind 7/11)

Great steak and others Le Cote de Bouef Bangrak

English fish and chips - Shakespeare pub Bangrak.

Only 'real' tapas that I have found - Barcelona Fisherman's village.

Khao Hom for Thai food (if you can get in) Bangrak. Very popular with Bangkokians at the moment.

Mexican 'fusion' and Thai - Casa Luna Bangrak

King of Bread seems to be the most popular place for breakfast and lunch. Ring road near Fisherman's traffic lights. Corner of Soi Sunday.

All currently open

Originally called the One Dollar Cafe.

Every dish was 25 baht or one USD.

Good Thai food even then.

One restaurat that I forgot is Angela's Diner at Moon Hut in Maenam. Again. Always good food. A bit far for me now with so many good restaurants nearby.

Bang Rak Cafe, moved to new location about a year ago, serves a very good English breakfast.

Given your excellent choices of Italian restaurants you will also like Pepenero (at the beginning of Maenam coming from FV). The owner is the husband of the Salefino owner but menu style is quite different.

My Cafe in Bophut is excellent for both Thai and Western food.

The Shack in FV is quite good but pricey. However, they have special nights with all you can eat Taco or Ribs which is good value for money.

Secret Garden and Angela's  breakfast I like a lot with the nice beach setting.

We seem to go out a lot less than before Covid. Not sure if we just got used to be at home more or if the reduced number of restaurants has impacted us.

I have a lot of sympathy for places which closed down (temporarily or for good) but it does annoy me if they don't bother to update their Google/Facebook opening times. Once they open again I will certainly not rush to the places that left me in front of closed doors just because they could not be bothered to update their details,

I  have eaten in Angela's Diner seversl years ago, but it was on the ring road, and I noticed that it was closed down when I passed a while back. Might try it again if it has moved to Moon Hut as you say.

On Sunday  we went to Relax / Chao Lay restaurants on the beach at Bang Por. Just before the big hill to Nathon.

Good food in a nice setting, right on the beach. (See photo below)The Relax one was closed for refurb, but the Chaolay was open.

Friends recommend Treehouse restaurant in Meanam to me but I have not been there for probably 10 years or so.

It is just quite a way from where I live/work.

Quite a few Thais down from Bangkok say that it is good.

I have been reading throughout the post and have taken note of various restaurants. Thank you very much to all.

What I see is that there is no publication from this year. Any news to keep in mind?

Update on my previous list.

KOB on the Beach in Bangrak. Very good.

Antica Locanda in Bangrak - very good. My favourite Italian restaurant for almost 20 years.

Olivers Steakhouse in Bangrak is good.

Chez Francois in Fisherman's village - best food in the village. Must book.

From the above post, all still very good except - Casa Luna is now closed.

I have not tried it but a lot of people say that the Shakespeare pub does good food. Anyone know if they still do their famous Sunday lunches?

Also just past Chez François near Fisherman' village, same side, almost at the corner is an old chicken and rice shop. Cheap and cheerful. Supposedly one of the oldest restaurants in Samui.

Yes. That's the one. Opposite L'italian restaurant and Saona clothes shop. Old wooden, Thai style front with one or two tables outside.

Yes they do. You have to book.

I will send you a PM with Joe's number.

He also delivers now and makes some things that are sold in Bangrak Minimart. (Sausage rolls, crumpets etc)

Delivery to Bangrak, Choengmon and Plai Laem. He may go further!
