Featured Replies

Hi All

Does anyone know of any guest houses, hotels or bungalow complexes near Amphur Phon (Phol) in Khon Kaen?

Need to accomodate approx 20 people next year (so 12+ rooms) & me & fella want to do some recon when we are back in August so that we don't end up putting our guests up in a skanky place :o

All suggestions welcome.

Phon is approx half way between Khon Kaen & Korat here

Cheers

I have stayed at a bungalow resort on the Ban Phai side of Amphur Phon on highway 2. It is on the left coming from Khorat, I think quite near a large furniture store on the opposite side of the road. The resort is visible from the highway but set back a little. There are perhaps 15 to 20 bungalows among trees and near a small pond. These are serviced by a nice restaurant/bar with indoor and outdoor sections. I thought the pluses were that it was in a quiet, rural location with reasonable food at a fair price, but against that the bungalows were a little run-down and there are loads of insects. There are different sizes of bungalows and when I stayed I think a middle-sized one cost 800 baht. I can't remember the name of the resort (I think there may be a neon sign saying 'Resort') and never had a telephone number. Perhaps this post will jog somebody's memory.

A friend tells me that the resort I mentioned is called Suan Sun - which roughly translates as fir tree garden.

If this is the place I think it is, just North and West of Ban Phai near the Cabbages & Condoms place, it's just down the road from the Cotton Bud factory.

Their number is 043 374950.

It's about a 15-20 minute (35-40 km) drive to Ban Phon from there.

thanks for this info. Cuban I got your pm, thanks v much, if your friend knows anything else pls let me know, we will be over in a couple of months so just want a few places to check out whilst trying to find more on our own

thanks

As stated above, Suan Sun Resort is on Highway 2 (the main Mittraphap Highway from Khorat to Nong Khai) just north of Amphur Phon and a good way south of Ban Phai. Cuban must be thinking of somewhere completely different if he really means north and west of Ban Phai. The resort I have in mind is near a well- known furniture store that sells locally made real-wood products, and is much nearer to Phon than 35 km. However, I don't know the telephone number.
