Oh Dear! Korat aunty needs some driving lessons!

Sanook reported that a 50-60 year old "pa" or "aunty" who is a learner driver reversed into a klong in the Pak Thong Chai area of Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand's north east.

Fortunately for the inexperienced driver she had already opened her window while reversing.

As the car fell into Klong Nam she was able to scramble out of her Honda City and watch it flow away in flood waters.

It got stuck at a small bridge some way along the klong with only the rear end visible.

The plate number was 2152, for lottery purposes, notes Thaivisa.

rather than force "big bike owners" to have a special licence it would be more productive to make people who have accidents to undergo special training

She probably thought that 'R" on the gear lever meant "River" as apposed to 'Reverse"

She forgot to ensure the speed racer button on her steering wheel to turn the car into a boat was pushed.  Oh well, car will be sold off as good as new and the fish will be in the drivers seat.

An old lady was knitting as she drove.  A police officer drove up alongside her and yelled: “Pull over!” The lady yelled back: “No—they’re mittens.”...

If you fancy diving in ..

given it ended up getting drowned I would be a bit hesitant in laying some dosh on that No though ..

We laugh at this but these are the types of drivers out there on the road every day...

No business being on the road until sufficient training mix of simulation, classroom and hands on....

serious issue that just isn’t addressed in this culture for whatever reason

I've often toyed with the idea of creating a video game/training video for driving in Thailand. It would include all the myriad possibilities of drivers doing unthinkable things on the road and how to prepare for them.

It should include graphic explosions, fires, flying bodies etc to show consequences.

I've abandoned the idea because Thai drivers see these things every day in person or on TV and simply don't care.

It might be useful to farang drivers new to the Kingdom though. It took me two years for unimaginable stupidly to become daily expectation.

I'm thankful that I won't be alive when flying vehicles come to Thailand. Even the birds will become wary. There won't be a single square meter of Thailand safe from fireballs and falling debris. The only protection for your house will be anti aircraft gun implacements.
