Only 2 years old Samsung cylinder type, motor smell of burning then dies. It's 1800 watts, would that have any bearing for a short life? not used that much. Any recommendations for another model?

If it is cutting out it sounds like there is a breaker switch designed to prevent overheating....as Daffy says check the air flow is unhindered.

Unlikely, but the bearings might be shot.

It's a Samsung NOT a Hoover  :whistling:

Have you checked for dust blocking the airflow over the motor?

It seems to be a British thing - if it sucks it is a Hoover.

Kind of strange as it was a US company.

The wattage cant be the reason.

I've been using a National MC-4500 for over 2 decades! - (not heavy, daily use. Mostly for my car)

we had a good one in the 60's Hoover constellation. It was round so never got stuck and floated on a cushion of air, stopped making them ages ago. Yes I did take apart and clean it, no change. If it's on the lowest setting it will try to start up but turn it up and cuts off

It depends upon which manufacturer put what motor into the appliance. Most small appliances put their component parts out for bid. So the odds are your motor is made of questionable Chineseium.
