Positive ratings about the EU were stable or higher than  last year in almost all member states surveyed, Pew said.
Positive ratings about the EU were stable or higher than last year in almost all member states surveyed
More people hold a favourable view of the European Union than not in every member state surveyed in a new poll, while positive opinions in Britain – which left the bloc in January – are the highest on record.

A Pew Research Center study of eight EU countries also found more than half of respondents felt confident Germany’s Angela Merkel and France’s Emmanuel Macron would do the right thing, but far fewer showed as much trust in Boris Johnson.

The survey of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden, carried out from mid-June to late July between the first and second waves of Covid-19, found a median of 66% of people polled approved of the EU.

  • Why should the EU negotiate with an ex-member, that voted to leave ? They should let Britain stand outside in the cold for twenty or twenty-five years. Then maybe let them back in, if they ask nicely.

Do you think certain members will be along soon to label those 60% of British respondents as anti British and unpatriotic?

Oven-ready Brexit deal to be final challenge on Bake Off

Quote

A TRIO of amateur bakers will shoulder the hopes of a nation by creating oven-ready Brexit deals for the final challenge of The Great British Bake Off.

After tackling battenbergs, babka and steamed buns, the finalist will have just three hours to create a showstopper challenge which impresses the EU, the ERG, Red Wall voters, the incoming Biden administration, Pru Leith and Paul Hollywood.

Absolutely priceless.

It is not the first controversial comment made by Lord Frost before becoming chief negotiator, though.

In a pamphlet written just before the referendum, he warned that in trade talks with the EU “it will be Britain that has to make the concessions to get the deal”.

he is realistic ....

Not a lot of substance there, considering the process started in 2016: Indonesia to use EU template for post-Brexit UK FTA, says Jokowi advisor

It seems to me that ,so far, the only ways the E.U. and the U.K. are doing since months and months,  is through their negotiators, being :

Brussels to London and London to Brussels.

I don't understand what point you are trying to make. It's irrelevant what comments he may have made historically.

The important fact is here and now, the UK's red lines have been stated, and he will not budge.

If the EU insist on maintaining control over the UK, there will be no deal, and hopefully nobody will be fouled by the EU's devious attempts to invoke a "provisional deal". Presumably this is an attempt to cement the Withdrawal Agreement and claim the £39B, which hopefully Frost will make contingent on a final deal being established, ratified by the EU states, and signed.

There's no accident about it. It's all down to the EU's ridiculous demands to retain control over UK's governance. The red lines have not changed at all, and neither has the WA's principle of respecting UK's sovereignty, which the EU choose to disregard.

Exclusive: Britain quietly paid £1bn Brexit Day bill to Brussels
The European Commission said the date of the demand, which saw the UK pay an increased £10bn EU budget contribution, was 'coincidence'

By James Crisp,
 BRUSSELS CORRESPONDENT 21 November 2020 • 9:00pm

Britain quietly paid the billion pound bill it was handed by Brussels on Brexit Day during EU trade negotiations, the Telegraph can reveal, as hopes that a deal can finally be done rise.

The European Commission sent the Government a demand for an extra £1.09 billion on top of its Budget payments to Brussels on January 31, the very day the UK legally left the EU.

Senior officials told EU ambassadors that a deal was “close” and “95 per cent” done on Friday, despite trade negotiations being thrown into disarray after a member of Michel Barnier’s team tested positive for coronavirus.

The UK is already capitulating sorry its negotiating its red lines.

Wait for the final deal to come out where all those red lines got removed and the fishermen got sold out.

What "ridiculous demands to retain control over UK's governance" would they be, then?

What principles in the WA has the EU chosen to disregard? It is Johnson who wants to renege on the WA, not the EU!

According to @Tofer, whatever the agreement over UK/EU fishing rights, the UK fishermen have already been sold out:

When asked how this deal, and those previously signed with Greenland and the Faroe Islands, would help the UK fishing industry he declined to answer.

Scaremongering again.

Ye of little faith.

Do you relish the prospect of the UK failing, just to prove your point?

A very sad attitude, and rather unpatriotic.

You mean you really don't know, where on earth have you been all these years?

The demand for free access to UK's territorial waters, and the so called "level playing field" tying the UK into EU rules and regulations in perpetuity, all under the control of the EUCJ.

The WA stated that the negotiations should be conducted in good faith and with respect for the UK's sovereignty, which they clearly are not!!

We've been over and over these subjects, and you're just balking at the facts.
