Not only is the judgement swift and universal, but it goes to the extremes of what they think people do in Thailand whether they are an expat or just a short term tourist.  To put it bluntly, they think everybody here is ****ing children.

You are totally right, that if you say you lived in Thailand, there is an almost universal assumption that you were a sex tourist.

 

Now my wife isn't a usual Thai. Raised and educated in the US and we met and married in Singapore before moving to Thailand, then back to the US.

 

It was no long after we had moved back to the US and we were at a friends party. I was chatting to this guy and the fact that I had lived in Thailand  for many years, he launched into the whole hookers, ladyboy tall tales, and how many had I had?

 

Unbeknown to him however was that my wife was stood right behind him as he's spouting off.

 

As many of us married to Thai women know, never a good thing to incur the ire of a Thai woman, you never come out of the resulting verbal battle well.

Neither did he!

would have been ironically gigolo funny if the females herded from the Qatar airliner fiasco were african sex tourists!

You mis-understood me from the beginning, I wasn't referring to Nigerians or their penchant for scams... the post was about something entirely different, which is what my post leaned towards.

From what I have divined Japanese men come to Thailand because the Japanese women keep their legs crossed. Not so? I have talked to a few Japanese males in Bangkok.

They didn't come for sex (only) like a typical sex tourist but for relationships with Thais. In the end like western ladies that go to different countries to find their lover. And they also got disappointed like them very often. I don't know if they are still doing this. But when I lived for a while in Patong more than 20 years ago we always watched them and were asking us why they sadly don't look for Farangs...

In Jamaica when you're in the airport coming through customs entering the country, the lines are ALWAYS predominantly, western female sex tourist  piling in in search of Jamaican lovers.  I hear several African ports of entry are the same way  

When I think of Thailand I think of the lovely women doing classical dance. And the Buddhist culture in general.
