Staggering early vote turnout boosts hopes for Biden in Texas

Of course he lies. He's becoming a politician.  Before that, he was a classic New York City BS artist. Goes with the territory. Now Joe Biden on the other hand has 47 years of sterling service to the nation. Must be easy to point to several keystone achievements that he has accomplished, such as:

a/ achieving energy independence

b/ enabling peace in the Middle East

c/ reducing unemployment to historic lows for minorities

d/ reducing tensions with North Korea

e/ realigning American policy towards Asia

...oops, wrong candidate. Sorry.

a/  didn't quite achieve energy independence under Obama, still not quite there under Trump.

b/  by breaking agreements that limited Iran's production of nuclear material Trump has motivated Iran to produce more enriched uranium.  That doesn't enable peace.

c/  a big increase in deficit spending resulted in a small boost to the strong economy Trump inherited.  Then he mismanaged the pandemic.

d/  other than giving Kim Jong Un greater domestic and international credibility, how has Trump reduced tensions with North Korea?

e/  by abandoning international agreements such as the TPP which would have contained China, Trump has greatly empowered China.  So yeah, he has definitely realigned US policy towards Asia.

However, it is obvious that Biden is significantly "challenged", especially if you compare 2020 Joe Biden to even 2012 Joe Biden. He was notably sharper, more humorous, and able to engage without memory loss even a few years ago.  These aren't the funny gaffes that Joe was famous for. There are constant and significant lapses in memory and ability to concentrate that are frankly frightening.

Frightening? Really? Why not look at the transcripts of the 2nd debate between Biden and Trump and see who is more lucid? Trump has never demonstrated that he is capable of mastering nothing more complicated than soundbites. Biden is able to lucidly discuss with nuance complicated subjects.

So before becoming a politican and therefore ly9ing,  he was a "classic New York City BS artist". Are you suggesting that BS artists whether from New York City or not, don't lie. Is there such a thing as a BS artist who doesn't lie? Isn't that the essence of being a BS artist?

AFAIK, none of Trump's kids became crack addicted, none of them impregnated a stripper, none of them dated their dead brother's widow, and none of them left a computer full of damning emails in a shop and forgot about it.

None of Trump's kids ever served their country in uniform.

But Trump's kids aren't running.  The person who ran a fake university, won't reveal his financial arrangements with a money laundering bank, won't reveal his taxes, has blatantly used public office for financial gain, and has ties with countless dodgy figures is running for office.

You mean like Covfefe, Yo Sem Mite, does Finland belong to Russia?, dropping a nuclear bomb in the eye of a hurricane to stop it, investigating injecting disinfectant to kill Covid...........and you think these are the ramblings of an intelligent or sane man? He is a nutter!

1. His signature on the receipt might be a bit of a giveaway.

2. The lack of denial from anyone in the Biden camp about the authenticity of either the computer or the contents of the emails found in it.

If someone said they had a hard drive from a computer you got rid of years ago, could you definitely say it was or wasn't yours?  If they presented you with thousand of emails they said came from that hard drive and some of them looked legit, could you definitely say that all of them were legit?

Most important, does anything in the questionable hard drive provide evidence that Joe Biden has done anything wrong?

You're right, it is possible. Once the signature is presented though, the burden shifts.  Again, nobody  connected with Biden suggests that it is forged.  Instead, they cry "smear" and run for cover. The deflection tactics being used by the Biden campaign are a dead giveaway that there is something to the story.

They don't have to worry too much about giving the story oxygen though. The media is already smothering it nicely for them. Joe himself takes no questions at any of his events as far as I have heard, the media is kept far from him on those few occasions when he ventures out of his home.   The President of the US needs to be vigorous and energetic.  I have yet to see that Biden is physically up to the job.

The best but is Fox News ‘smothering’ it, because Fox News are so much part of the Biden campaign.

hard to follow the story with such a lack of information.  just seems weird.  why is hunter storing thousands of emails on his laptop?  no cloud storage?  no bathroom homebrew server?  he's supposedly making millions, but has to drop off damaged office equipment for repair himself?  no office staff to handle that for him?  and he conveniently forgets to pick up this important equipment, and ignores calls from the repair company?

convenient.  and conveniently just in time.  i'd think if this were legit, and the contents were earth-shattering, jules would have released copies to all the newsies.

this looks suspiciously similar to the fusion/gps steele dossier, so i'd expect the networks to be circumspect.

here's nbc's take:

Here's what happened when NBC News tried to report on the alleged Hunter Biden emails

Analysis: Trump complains the media isn't reporting on Hunter Biden's emails. But NBC News met obstacles, including Rudy Giuliani, when it tried.

Yes, keeping the election honest is a republican initiative. Voter fraud is rampant these days. Just ask Joe.

No. Suppressing votes is the only way republicans win. You've posted an obvious gaffe. Biden has been doing gaffes all his political life. That's baked in. You know what he really meant and also that video was very short so possibly revealing context was intentionally edited out.

Something to consider.

For the purposes of this forum, the "campaigning" is basically long over.

Except for maybe a few people who are in the U.S. now and planning to vote on election day or in the last days of early in person voting in their states (and also drop boxes if available).

It's too late to mail in a ballot in the U.S. and certainly from Thailand.

Not that these discussions change anyone's mind.

Just keeping it real.

We're basically waiting for results now and it might be a very long wait!

Geez, Biden may go down as the least articulate candidate in history.  Not helping him at the polls.

And you know this how?

If the Republicans had been trying to keep the election honest, they would have protested against the drive by voting before it began. Instead they waited until it was over. This is clearly an attempt to slash the Democratic vote. The Republicans got lucky in that they drew an extremely biased judge for the first round of appeals. But the actual law passed by the state legislature is against them. It specifically authorizes the procedure that Harris County follows. So it should fail somewhere up the ladder.

Whatever, winning or losing, it will be interesting to see how many voters will even prefer to vote for Mr. Biden than for Mr. Trump.

Definitely millions more but that wasn't enough for HRC to win last time, so we're all on edge.

Texas’ top court denies a G.O.P. push to throw out over 120,000 votes; a federal case is pending.

The Texas Supreme Court denied an effort by Republicans to throw out more than 120,000 votes that had already been cast at drive-through locations in Harris County, leaving Republicans’ only remaining option at the federal level.

The ruling from the court came without comment.

The effort to get rid of the votes from largely Democratic Harris County now hinges on a nearly identical effort at the federal level, where a judge has called an election-eve hearing for Monday.

Right.  Deflect and blame the opposition.  Typical of a Trump supporter.

Who was in charge of the country?  Trump.  And the Republicans.  As Truman said:

The buck stops here' - meaning and origin.

Yeah.  Lied to the American people.  Again.  And Kushner admitted on tape they wanted to get the doctors out of the equation.  Which they did.  And over 100,000 more died than should have because of their actions.

They should be in jail.

More lies. First of all not plural. What other Democratic governors are accused of directing Nursing homes to accept infected patients?

And Cuomo did not force nursing homes to accept patients. Some nursing homes may have believed that was the case but it wasn't. Only if a nursing home had the facilities to safely protect residents was it supposed to accept transfers according to his directive.

"In addition:

While public health experts quibbled with the report’s self-serving claim that the governor’s policy wasn’t a factor in COVID-19 nursing home deaths, they nevertheless agreed with the report’s broader conclusion that nursing home staffers as well as visitors, before they were banned, were likely the main drivers of COVID-19 infection and death in nursing homes.

“Based on the timeline of the policy and deaths in the city, it is very unlikely that policy contributed to thousands of deaths,” said Shivakoti.

Infection control is a long-standing problem at nursing homes, Nash said, and the COVID deaths were a basic failure of infection control."

Mistakes were made early in the pandemic when people were desperately trying to avoid overwhelming the hospitals and the means of transmission were poorly understood.

Democratic governors learned from those mistakes.  Republican governors did not.  That's why nine of the ten states with the highest infection rates have Republican governors.   https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109004/coronavirus-covid19-cases-rate-us-americans-by-state/
