TAT predicts 11 million tourists from China/East Asia in 2021 - targets "Singles' Day" sales packages

The Tourism Authority of Thailand remain optimistic about tourism from China and East Asia next year.

They have predicted more than 11 million visitors from the region for 2021.

And they are working on trying to get the Chinese to part with their money on attractive package promotions for China's huge "Singles Day" shopping extravaganza on November 11th.

The TAT's marketing director for Asia and the Pacific, Chattan Kunchorn Na Ayutthaya told Thai Rath that he is predicting up to 11.16 million visitors from East Asia next year. This would be down 32.41% on 2019 (the last "normal" year, pre Covid).

Of this group he predicted 7.45 million Chinese, 1.21 million South Koreans, nearly a million Japanese and people from Hong Kong and just over half a million from Taiwan.

He outlined three "hypotheses" that would see tourists starting to return this November, next March and next July.

Much would depend on whether the Chinese government ban international travel at Chinese New Year in February. July was targeted as a good time because many Chinese travel then due to the school holidays.

Little was made of the Thai government's role though Chattan noted that the pandemic has been well controlled in Thailand.

One of the ways that Thailand hopes to spur the Chinese market is by offering promotions to visit Thailand through agents to be sold on the 11th of November - called Singles' Day or 11.11 in China. Packages would be advance payments for later visits.

The unofficial Chinese holiday is the largest shopping day both in physical and online retail in the world, notes Wikipedia.

Packages would be sold to people that could be used at Chinese New Year and if this is not possible they could be changed for free to another date in the future.

Perhaps TAT should open a museum dedicated to Thailand's illustrious leader.

A holy place dedicated to his life story, heroic accomplishments, dazzlimg brilliance, and unparalleled contributions to Thailand's peace, happiness and prosperity. A monument to his greatness would surely prove irresistible to tens of millions of Chinese pilgrims...eager to donate lavish sums of money for supreme spiritual guidance.

After all, he is the one and only...Hero-General.

TAT is that short for "Truly Anutin Tries" or "Truly Anutin is Tiring"?

And TAT probably doesn’t know there is significant asymptotic transmission happening in China that is not reported in their official figures

Or advance payments for no visits at all.

What is 'asymptotic transmission'. when its at home?

Does it make your vehicle move faster?

So will this mean that Thais or we long term visitors here will be able to visit any of those 5 countries mentioned without, or at least with less restrictions? This last year has been the first in 57 years that I haven't had a holiday.

I need a change of scenery and the  4 days I've just had down in the south at a funeral doesn't count. But as sad occasions go it was quite good fun. The west need to learn a thing or two about wakes.

Paying in advance for a holiday that you may - or may not - be able to take sometime in the future?

Yup, that surely will sell like hotcakes with the Chinese.

How did you land YOUR job, Khun Chattan? Thanks to your enormous marketing expertise merit... or simply because you have the "right" surname?

Now I know what TAT stands for

'Total Ass Talk'

What a waste of Government money.

Keeping themselves busy in a job that is not there anymore. COVID has wiped tourism of the face of the map for now and well into 2021-2.

As for someone paying for a trip on 11.11 that they don't know when they will take it? You may a well sign up for a trip to the moon.

Still seats left I'm told. Possible Discount on 11.11 too.

11th November is Armistice Day, when everyone, including Thai people, many of them working on the Thai Burma Railway,  should be remembering those that served and millions that died in WW2. Not some bloody stupid Chinese holiday for desperate singles.

From TAT stating already now about opening Thailand for their Chinese brothers only in July 2021, you can conclude that we Westerners probably can forget that they will let us in before 2022. They or their Chinese buddies don't want us in Thailand anymore. Is it their plan to establish Thailand as an exclusive destination for Chinese tourists? And also, either they don't believe in a vaccine anymore, or they don't care about it.

TAT can predict all that it likes, but if China keeps its ban on overseas tourism then no-one will be coming.

No more 30 day visas - new visa will be 30 x 1 day visas that allow the tourist to be counted as 30 tourists - both  in and out

11/11 -Singles Day The biggest online sales promotion in the world, billions in sales.

They don't even mention the west anymore~somehow that brings the idea that another election may be decades away.  Do they even know that India is a democracy (mostly)?
