Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister, visited Sheraton Samui Resort Hotel to check the Alternative Local State Quarantine (ALSQ) for foreign tourists.

PM Prayut Chan-o-cha led a Cabinet visit to the tourism hotspot of Koh Samui on Monday, to check preparations for the return of foreign visitors.

After landing at Koh Samui International Airport, the PM and his ministers inspected the Covid-19 screening checkpoints and told staff to be prepared for more tourist arrivals.

Prayut and his Cabinet also visited the Sheraton Samui Resort Hotel in Bo Phut to check the Alternative Local State Quarantine (ALSQ) for foreign tourists.

Foreigners must complete the mandatory 14-day ALSQ at one of eight hotels on Samui. If they then test negative for the virus, they can travel to various locations on the island, wearing an electronic wristband to monitor their movements. Any found to be infected with Covid-19 will be transferred for treatment.

The other ALSQ hotels are the Melia, Outrigger, Koh Samui Beach Resort, Baan Hin Sai Resort & Spa, Banyan tree, Impiana resort, and Aura Samui Best Beach Hotel.

The PM and his Cabinet also checked Samui’s Smart City Command Centre, which monitors safety for locals and tourists via 1,014 closed-circuit cameras located around the island. It also operates 26 free WiFi points that offer the SAFE T (SAFE-Travel) tourism information app.

The PM said he appreciated the efforts of staff at the Smart City Command Centre in taking care of the safety and health of citizens and tourists on Koh Samui.

The Cabinet will move on to Phuket on Tuesday, where it will hold its weekly meeting at the Splash Beach Resort.

Ah, the future of tracking tourists brought to you by the pointy heads of the Thai military.  Again, why would somebody need a Thai holiday now?   14 days in isolation and then what?  The streets will be very quiet one would imagine.

Don’t sit down yet….the fun is just beginning…

The Hero-General will now take all of his ‘yes men’, shoe shiners, story tellers, and court jesters to Phuket for the weekly circle jerk.

A splendid and lively time will be had by all.

Then the Chinese will have to do 14 day isolation on their return back to China.

So, the big boss himself needs to go to Samui to check on a hotel ...

Any secretary could have done the same as it's a complete waste of time !!!

Pure propaganda - just something to laugh about !!!

Samui is in full lockdown as pretty much everything is closed and/or about to go broke.

Chaweng beach road looks like a grave yard and so does Lamai. Botha re fully closed down.

The roads are a mess and nobody in his right mind comes on a holiday with two weeks

quarantine and a GPS tracker.

... and Chinese don't ever stay 2 weeks on Samui anyway ! So who is it going to be ?

Their wives have two wrists.   One is for her and one is for him. so he can go out with his friends.

Why do Thai officials keep harping about the somewhat non-existent 'returning foreign visitors and tourists'? If one wanted a real holiday, I doubt a 14-day quarantine plus having one's whereabouts electronically monitored and logged thereafter sounds like a good agenda. Even if someone had that kind of time and money to spend, I doubt Thailand would be the first destination of choice. The kinds of hoops, loops and conditions visitors are subjected to, make falling down a flight of stairs sound like a more enjoyable adventure.

Alternatively, why don't the authorities do more to spur and stimulate local tourism? It's not like the Thais can go anywhere now anyway, so why not encourage them to travel domestically and keep the local economy going? Even if transactions from domestic tourism don't match pre-CVD19 levels when the country was open to all and sundry, it is still better than nothing!

Samui has asked the government to make this mandatory, but the fella behind the PM Anutin thinks this is not necessary.

So after it is sure the tourist is free of the virus, he has to wear the electronic wristband to monitor his movements for the rest of his possibly months long stay?

Thank you Prayut for confirming so clearly what mendacious character you are, by blaming Covid while doing this all for your own political agenda of leading your private war against western foreigners.

And after it is sure that the foreigner arrived virus free, maybe weeks later while travelling around and possibly gotten infected by a Thai (who else then?), he will be transferred to be ripped off to one of your assigned hospitals with the usual Thai dual pricing.

Disgusting to the core! Unbelievable what Mafia state Thailand became under Prayuts rule.

Lol ! You mean at least they might have footage of the daily accidents on the roads which are more deadly than Covid on samui ! Also as far as I’m aware not one of these hotels mentioned is actually doing ASQ yet due to them trying to figure out how to get the people to samui .
