Why would you think that those protesting the pornhub Ban are expats?  You should really look at the true demographics and, of course where the story came from.  Besides that, it is just another step in totally disenfranchising the Thai people from utilizing their freedoms.  Not sure how Thailand believes a Porn site makes the country look bad, or disgraces it.  Sure they have a digital media law in-place but things like that are totalitarianism in nature and a control issue.  I think the main issue was that there was a couple of high profile people who had made a video and it ended up on the site from what I heard on the Channel 32 talk show last night where they spent 30 minutes discussing the pornhub ban.  Hilarious to spend so much time on something, besides that it has gone international as well, so who made themselves look funny, yes Thailand did.....lol

I just logged on to pornhub without using a vpn just to check it out and had no problem whatsoever.

There's that sidewalk spot between soi 13 and soi 11 where a couple of the bib and a couple of friendly ladies stand or sit all afternoon about 6 feet apart. I can "see" them, but I can't see any difference between them, and those guys might as well represent the whole government. Maybe they don't want certain kinds of competition?

he means https/www.............. not http/www. But google always gives the secure link it seems. Anyway, I never used pornhub but did check and it is readily accessible even with vpn turned off. One site that was blocked without vpn was far more interesting - Daily Wail, sorry, mail!

FWIW, I do see potential harm in porn use, namely porn addiction which is an under-reported but very serious issue for large numbers of people, particularly within the younger generations.

 

However, I firmly believe that censorship is not the answer - like all prohibitive actions, it simply leads to black markets and other ways of circumnavigating the prohibitive measures.

 

The answer, as for so many issues in the world today, is education. By putting these issues in the open, harm can be greatly reduced; in the case of pornography, this would include education on the dangers of addiction to porn as well as regulation and protection for those working in the industry.

 

It all comes down to governments around the world treating adults as adults. It is essential that people are given the necessary information to make their own decisions and look after themselves without any "tough parenting" from the state.

 

This is the only way forwards IMHO - prohibition never has worked, doesn't work and never will work.

The education alternative does have the potential to reduce harm. But of course, like most things worthwhile, it is difficult to implement and will take time...

On the subject of vaping, I've seen quite a number of videos from one particular Bangkok blogger which always show several girls vaping outside nightclubs. Yet another law that is ignored and not enforced. Actually, nearly everything is illegal in Thailand, so it's a good thing the authorities take no notice.
