There should be no differentiation in these cases involving child abuse. First to say... child porn in any form is horrid and hugely harmful and must be stopped.

 

HOWEVER, all the vicious calls for killing, castrating, burying or boiling alive that old guy will NOT stop any part of child porn.  No comments I can see here relate to stopping child porn:- only vengeance, which achieves no progress.

 

Almost all comments observe that this guy and other like him are sick.  - You do not make sick people better by killing, shaming or maiming them after the fact. Nor does that stop child porn - it simply puts it deeper underground.

 

Progress starts when society, politicians and agencies start to get real about:

- the sickness of the consumers of child porn and how to go about helping these people to volunteer to get well and providing treatment;

- get after the producers / posters of the porn and properly criminalise them (more difficult and less grandstanding but far more purposeful than parading guys like this).

In order to be "only looking" at these pictures, somewhere, somebody is uploading these pictures and that means that someone, somewhere is taking these pictures and that means that somewhere, a child is being violated.

 

So no harm done, eh?
