Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul

A European minister, who arrived in Thailand on an official two-day visit on Tuesday, tested positive for Covid-19 and will return to his country in a private plane.

His 12-strong entourage, however, tested negative and will return in a separate plane.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul made the announcement on Wednesday at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute, where the patient has been put up. Anutin also said the European minister has been treated with Favipiravir and will return home later in the day.

The minister was reportedly scheduled to meet Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and other ministers on Wednesday, but the mission was cancelled after he was found to be infected.

So does this imply that foreign "dignitaries" are exempt from quarantine and just have to take a test?

So, are you thinking of becoming a foreign dignitary? Go for it: you're foreign, so you're half-way there!

European minister and his entourage of 12 must have been on the  STV for diplomats (smile). Joking aside it's a step in the right direction. The bigger question is why the European minister was allowed to get on the plane, departing to Thailand, in the first place. Then again minister coming from Hugary doesn't really surprise me.

No quarantine then?

Lucky he tested positive on arrival or Prayut might have had to phone in sick Friday !!

So, Thailand should be operating differently then other first world economies?  Do some bloody research before your post your anti-Thai statements.

Some people don’t have to fill in a passenger locator form or self-isolate on arrival in the UK, because of the jobs they do.

Thaiand is not the UK and it's not first world. I'm fully aware of what goes on for business travellers in the UK.

My comment is a question and not a statement. Please look at the punctuation. It is definitely not anti-Thai, it reflects my surprise that a country that is paranoid about COVID-19 getting into the system, that tightened those rules after the Myanmar truck driver and Egyptian soldier incidents, is still seemingly treating some people different to others.

Does he have a name? Surely, it's not a state secret.

Why do ministers from proper elected governments take anything to do with an unelected "PM" who just bullied his way into taking over a country followed by a bunch of poorly educated tinpot soldiers who should have stayed in their barracks?

I am hoping that he and his entourage were in quarantine and that he was nearing the end of the 14 days if he was due to meet Prayut and other cronies today!  But maybe I am just a dreamer ????

Two day visit says it all doesn't it ????

After the incident some months back when it was found that Egyptian air force staff were gadding back and forth as they liked, the government said that all foreign visitors including diplomats would have to undergo the 14-day quarantine period. The government should start heeding its own advice:

You should know very well by now, that they talk so much nonsense here.    We cannot believe anything they say!!!!
