My wife is a victim of Thai education system. The main takeaways from 12 years is knowing how to fold 7/11 bags into neat triangles and deference to power. Nearly a blank slate.... no fault of hers. Criminal what ed system has done to Thai minds.

She is bright but never given mental tool, and I've been teaching her. She was so happy when I taught her how to change fractions into decimals one example. Geography, history, science.... on and on. I was a high school teacher back in USA. Keep it fun... she is thirsty for learning.

Academics teaches independent thought and critical thinking. So that people can learn for themselves, adapt and be resilient.

 

Patriotism, history and loyalty is brainwashing that leaves people diminished and incapable. It holds people and their country back and leaves them open to manipulation and subservient to authoritarian leaders who abuse their power and strip them of their rights.

Along with live-in conscripts to do all the house chores, gardens etc. 

We currently have at least 2 ex-military brass on our housing estate with the same arrangement, and a couple of others with a casual arrangement.

I said a while back in another thread Prayuth looked tired or sick.  It must be a real struggle to hide how one has amassed a huge fortune whilst being a career army officer.   Or could it be sleepless nights because he knows a tap on the shoulder is coming and if he resists a couple of hand grenades will be lobbed through the bedroom window late one night.  ????

I agree that patriotism, history and loyalty are perhaps morally important but in an ever changing, challenging, technologically advancing world, the need is for more academia not less.

Mr. PM you need to understand the old phrase 'time & tide wait for no one' because if you don't Thailand will slide forever backwards...perhaps that what you want.

Turning a blind eye to coruption is corrupt,   going against your own laws is corrupt , honesty starts within and with the ones who surround you and work under you , if you have an absolutely clear conscience that will say a lot

Prayut's coup was held legal by the Constitutional Court as ancillary to all the NCPO Orders ruled legal and binding; even though the NCPO  has been dissolved.

Yes after the fact he made what he did legal so that he and his ilk could never be held accountable for their actions, or future actions.   A real winner of a man who always had the idea in his head to pilfer the coffers and walk away with no repercussions.

The first bit I think is in reverse, it's less about academics and all about indoctrination, as for the second if he's bored and tired there is an alternative [which the students are asking for] step down.

This is one of the best statements I have seen to describe the mentality. after saying something like this no need to elaborate anything as it fully explains why things in this country are as backwards as they are... Fact being that the basic education already now is way too much focused on topics that he says is not enough. Wonder how he thinks about education systems in progressive north European countries that are fairly low on those submissive topics...
