Visiting thailand and living Thailand was always upfront for many people.

People come to Thailand based on the amenities being offered and how they perceived the way of life in Thailand.

When they are talking about " Mass tourism" , it is about the  hordes of Chinese coming to thailand on group tour.

One has to understand why now the Chinese are interested in coming to thailand. ..It was all about a Chinese movie about Chiang Mai few years ago that intrigue the Mainland Chinese to visit thailand on  a cheap budget.

As long it is cheap and easy into Thailand and back to their own country... they will come to thailand, With all the restriction in Thailand and back to China, it does not look like a good deal for them and way too expensive for them..

and worst Chinese are superstitious.. they do not believe the Thai government that the COVI19 number is low.. they know better.

Mass tourism is not dead .. there is nobody interested in the program.

100% wrong.

Yes and all the unemployed Thais as a result of it agree with you.

Don't worry bout the unemployed

Here is how they can get a new job:

1. the good looking girls pseudo young ( less than 35yr).. will go ahead and work the massage parlor.. there are a lot of customers...a good money.. so what is wrong to share he beauty with other men.

2. the man can either sell noodle soup of run around with fruit cart.

or become motorcycle driver.. always a market for cheap food,

3. the ugly women can wait for soi cowboy to open or moonlight on the street.

4. last ...go home and become a rice farmer.

there is no such thing as unemployed in thailand.. it depends on your choices of work.

Until march? The vaccines are already being given to the western world.. Why can't they just allow vaccinated tourists to enter?

The US will get first the vaccines and the rest of the world ..who cares!!!!

No vaccine is 100% effective, why take the risk of allowing potentially infected people enter.

vaccines is never effective.. it is about probabilties of success and never 100% at first.

Infected people to enter.??? Do you believe the government number that thailand has low infection. That is propaganda that the Thai government is

spreading.. numbers are based on the amount of tests.

you need to test almost 1/3 of the population to determine that the country has low infection. I have not seen the number on how many people they have tested..Only how many people were infected.. that does not mean anything.

Spoken as a selfish expat would.  Well done.

Well said, so many smug posters lately on TV obviously in Los at the moment. If restrictions were lifted tomorrow tourist numbers would not return for years but those who have connections can get on with their lives and relationships.

Unfortunately they know exactly what they are doing. Destroying independant businesses with the intention of making Thailand socialist and eventually communist. It is even being attempted in the US with election fraud. Thailand and the world ais finished.

Relax, buddy. The Thai junta can be described as many things, but 'outstanding Marxist-Leninists' is not one of them. Do you really think they staged the 2014 coup in order to have the workers own the means of production?

Indeed, March is being optimistic, I think June or July is more likely

Perhaps , it depends how many hoops are still in place. I expect end of next year we will see a return to relative normality.

For a tourist like myself that just means inconvenience , far more serious for those employed in the travel industry .

The lack of financial support from the Thai government to those grieviously impacted by Covid is an absolute disgrace , there will be consequencies.

Excellent news. Mass tourism has spoilt Thailand's beauty, and I hope it's gone for good.

I know what you mean, but don't forget about the poor souls that are really struggling because of this. On the other token, and with respect to Thailand's beauty, how would you feel if the powers that be (and they like the idea) made it really difficult for retirees and foreigners in general to stay long term?

But they are actively encouraging Thai people to visit Chiang Mai where there is the potential that at least 6 'super-spreaders' have been shall we say 'active'?  Given their 'activity' type, there is a strong possibility that the situation in Chaing Mai could get out of control very quickly. I would have thought that some of those ladies contacts have no intention of being 'traced' and some may well have travelled.

People are being vaccinated very soon. Why shouldn't someone with a vaccine be allowed into Thailand?

Ask the Minister for Tourism and Sports

I'm not talking about retirees or tourists in numbers that don't destroy the places that they come to see. I'm talking about endless crowds of package tourists, of the zero dollar variety, and low grade lager louts that completely ruin Thailand's most beautiful places.

There is a fine line between 'over tourism' and having a functional tourist economy.  I don't think the insane amount of Chinese tourist busses clogging the streets was helping anyone but the Chinese business owners shuttling these Chinese package tourists around.  Shunning tourism as an ex-pat is distasteful, as you originally came as a tourist as well.  However, these package tours will hopefully be gone for good, they were of no benefit to Thai people and certainly didn't help regular tourists enjoy it anymore either.

Isn't the government talking about creating a travel bubble with 19 Chinese provinces ?

2019 tourism figures:  China, 10.9 million.  Other Asian countries but not including Laos, Cambodia, or Myanmar, 14 million.  'Mass tourism' to Thailand is not just Chinese.

What a nightmare. They have no clue on what to do.

The usual TVF perspective.

They know what they need to do, and getting on with it, learn to live with it.

Thailand leaders!  you better jump  when the Chinese speak whether you know it " you are their b-t-ch! "

This article time frame is consistent that they are just buying time for the vaccine to come out and hope in a month or two the results are good.

For five months!  conversation about bubbles, it  burst then and it will burst again.  Don't worry as the western wo????rld science thru studies and check has vaccines coming out but the Chinese all of a sudden clearly without real standards and check including the Russian are ahead of the game?

Was in the link in my post.

Penicillin was discovered by accident. Doesn't make it less effective.

Your point is?

My point is the sub group on which they achieved 90% efficacy was younger, 55 yo or less, than the older group on which they only achieved 60% efficacy.

Its not clear if the higher efficacy was due to the age group or the dosage mistake. Only a properly performed test with no dosage errors and a diverse sample of participants will give that answer.

Many in the younger group were given double dose. Result not age related. AZ results will be published in the lancet for peer review at the appropriate time. I suggest that you wait for that rather than second guess leaked results.

I am glad that Thailand is staying cautious.  In the USA the vaccine may be given to emergency

cases, and yes more is on the way, but it will take a long while for enough people to get the vaccine,

that we will all be lucky if most of can get a vaccine even if we want it. To the posters who want

the borders open now. Get Real!  Have a bit of patience,  Thailand will have to get vaccines to all

the border jumpers and such before the Thai situation is really considered under control.

I am waiting for next Winter  November or December before going to Thailand or anywhere

as the masses are just too dangerous for me to want to take a long flight any place.

Oh Trumps lawyer, Rudy G is in hospital tonight with covid 19.

     Geezer

Tourism gone for a long time.  Yet, the Baht still rises.  Amazing Thailand.

Because the value western currencies are dropping. Tell them to stop printing money.

When US releases next stimulus, dollar will drop even lower, that naturally boosts baht higher.

UK is also requiring visitors from many countries, includes Thailand, to be quarantined for 14 days.

That was removed weeks ago. No need to self isolate in UK if returning directly from Thailand.
