Following reports of shops and hotels attempting to defraud the government’s economic stimulation campaigns, the Prime Minister has stressed all persons involved must be prosecuted, whatever kind of fraud it is.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, was commenting in regard to reports of fraud involving the 50:50 Co-Pay campaign, and the Travel Together tourism subsidy campaign.

He said the government has been trying to fix the loopholes in these campaigns, and has ordered related agencies to file charges against businesses and hotels suspected of defrauding the campaign, while asking the public to come forward and report any kind of fraudulent activity to the officials.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Authority of Thailand yesterday filed charges against some 200 hotels and businesses suspected of having defrauded the Travel Together campaign.

On a report by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) which claimed the government led by the National Council for Peace and Order following the 2014 coup d’etat was involved in the most corruption, the Prime Minister said he has ordered related agencies to verify the report, while elaborating that the comparative figure used the number of complaints, exclusive of investigation outcomes.

He said the Office of the Prime Minister is now working to collate the government’s outcomes, with analysis on how each project complies with the National Strategy; what benefits the public received, and fairness to the contractors.

On an evaluation of individual ministers, the Prime Minister said this should be the duty of the media, while pointing out that some of the ministers may not be well known, but they have performed their job in the background without seeking media attention.

If they prosecute all those in government involved in the corruption too, I can see Thailand looking forward, and going places.

If they prosecute everyone in the government who is corrupt, then the Thai government will be slimmed down considerably. Personally, I would take this guy rather more seriously if the threats and promises also applied to his familial and institutional brethren, but I guess that's a bit too close to home.

It's being reported, but the problem is that it's Prayuts chums who are dipping their beaks in and filling their pockets.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out Prawit had 'opened' a watch store and made a killing with the let's go halves deal.

Considering this man's erstwhile excuse/justification for staging his coup was that the country needed to be freed from corruption, it is just amazing how spectacularly he has failed at this goal. Though it's by no means surprising. Each and every military government of the past turned out to be even more corrupt than the preceding civilian government they had illegally removed on the pretext that it had been "too corrupt".

The coup supporters were told this repeatedly when they were cheering him into power.
