I don't think they have the cold storage facilities to store the Pilzer vaccine.

Assuming it gets approved, the British vaccine will be far the better option due to its durability.  All vaccines appear to stop serious infection, which is the most important thing. (yes, Astrazeneca really let the side down with their trials.)

90% asymptomatic out of just 516 infected seems a little too high in my estimation. Maybe if they tested the cheap labour on arrival things probably would be so bad. Just how many other people have gone there to buy for their businesses from many provinces is the breeding ground for a full on second wave.

Oxford/AZ vaccine will be approved in the UK on 28th or 29th Dec.

You have been subjected to "fake news"............in other words............Amercian Media promoting and marketing their vaccine on "dodgy" information.

WHY ???

The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines results were not based on testing asymptomatic......... so in effect their 95% is based on "not getting sick but without testing".  EG their tests did not test for any asymptomatic cases.

The Oxford/AZ results are based on testing and confirming with a PCR........so the lower percentage is because Oxford/AZ actually doing PCR and finding asymptomatic cases.

Its very normal for American companies to BS........they are making profit, they want to sell their vaccine...........Oxford/AZ is non profit, so the USA companies do not want anyone buying the Oxford/AZ vaccine.

Maybe you should read the research papers and not just the "fake news" media.

But the good news is.......all the vaccines prevent "serious" Covid.

And that is all that matters............

Right this very moment, there is a Covid outbreak in Britain, and it's being treated with an American vaccine, not a British one.  Right this very moment, there is a Covid outbreak in Thailand, and it will not be treated with any vaccine for three to four months, because Thailand placed all its bets on a British vaccine, instead of an American one. And all you can do is rant against the US.

There was no tourism and borders were closed. How did the first foreign worker (who must have been in Thailand since March) get the virus?

Obviously, no surprise that 50% of the migrant workers tested positive based on dense living conditions ( same situation in Singapore).

The virus existed in Thailand the whole time- but asymptomatic people were not tested in large numbers. Now they found 90% of the cases to be without symptoms.

Quite a lot of Thai people - especially in some parts of Bangkok - also live in dense living conditions, but they never seem to spread the virus, or most probably have been rarely tested for it.

Someone please explain how last year in China during the New Year home bound train travel by the masses, that China wasn't completely inundated with the virus.

Because they all wore masks and went home and stayed in, that simple.

This is a storm in a teacup.

Did Thailand have the opportunity to take some of the Pfizer vaccine?  If thye did, do thye have the facilities to store and transport it?  Perhaps - just perhaps- they made a decision to buy the UK vaccine for entirely logical reasons.

To be precise.

In the UK they are getting vaccinated by a vaccine made in Belgium by a US/German collaboration.

The Oxford/AZ vaccine will be approved before year end.

Moderna is selling for a profit.  Moderna is only approved in the USA.

Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is selling for a profit. Is approved in a few countries and in use in UK and USA.

Oxford/AZ vaccine is NON profit.  UK will again be the world leader and all being well will approve late December and use from January onwards.

Does not matter which one Thailand purchased as NONE will be delivered in Asia until 2021 of any sort.

EU/USA and other "big economies" have purchased all the initial production runs.

At this point, non-profit seems to equate with second rate.

Do not understand how all this cases comes in from Myanmar with no quarantine and spreads in numbers and they still make it so difficult for tourist to visit the country ?

At this point , as tourist get tested before boarding  ,  at arrival , ++ in quarantine,  why not reduce quarantine to 7 days ?

Pfizer Biontech is the only vaccine being used in Britain currently, and all it's funding came from Germany not the USA

The virus itself is a tiny .2 micron...but it has to "piggyback" on larger aerosols and droplet particles expelled from the respiratory system that are floating in the air; the virus itself doesn’t have wings. The masks have to filter out these larger particles in order to prevent virus infection. I agree properly wearing a quality mask is the key.

And more importantly how you take said mask off without instantly transferring filtered droplets onto your hands. Also be very aware that press buttons on ATM's, lifts and any ticket machines are good transmission points, more so with the latest variant of Covid.

These posts (and many others in various threads these months) hint at the same general thing - that Thailand does not test in order to keep cases hidden/unreported.

There is a problem with this line of thought.  Some of those hidden people with Covid will be sick enough to require hospitalization.  And if you don't test them once they're in the hospital, you're going to end up with a lot of other sick people (both in and out of the hospital).  Not testing sick people won't keep the hospital beds from filling up as more and more people get sick.

Furthermore, whether or not the government tests people can be discerned based on what happened up north a few weeks ago when people who came across the border showed up at hospitals with symptoms....  They were tested, their contacts were traced and tested, and all of this was made public.  Hundreds of people were tested, most were negative.  Why test these people but not all those others the government doesn't test to hide the numbers?  What's so special about them?

And now we see this same thing in Samut Sakhon.  A woman went to the hospital with symptoms and she was tested.  What's special about her?  Why test her, why report on her positive result?  Why didn't they not test her so they could hide her case too?  Why test her family and others who worked at the market?

IF the government was trying to hide the true number of people with Covid by not testing, then why test anyone, ever?

Simple answer.  They were tested because they had symptoms and went to the hospital.  Period.

Why lock down Samut Sakhon now?  If the virus is already all over the place (but hidden because the government does not test!) then what's the point of locking down.  Oh, wait....  To keep the ruse going?

Sinple also. Many have no symptoms are are positive with COVID.  Thailand has created a false sense of security.  Covid free.   Think again

So those migrant workers did have a 14 day quarantaine, all by Thai rules.

They have a working permit after the quarantaine. Or not? Thai broke their own rules?

Like  New Zealand did once.

Well in the UK they find a mutant virus of covid 19 working now and it is 70% more effective in spreading.

So this one is really highly contagious, we start all over again.

They dont know yet if this one is even more dangerous, they say. But ok happy days will continu with the new virus.
