The Netherlands and Belgium have now stopped all airtraffic with the UK. Also no more Eurostar.

Unless we can close the borders to everyone from the UK it wont work. As long as they are still in Europe we cant. But I believe its too late already.

I hope they EU puts a high tariff on the English corvid strain to keep it out ????

British crows will not be subject to any tariff unless a couple of dozen get baked in a pie, which is subsequently exported.

Belgium, starting at midnight, also other traffic from UK. Netherlands for the moment from UK can still come by car, ferry or train.

One assumes the current vaccines cannot be deployed against this new strain of Covid-19, so more delays ahead to get matters under control.

One should not assume. The current vaccines are just as effective and the new strain is not more lethal. It just spreads more rapidly.

That is true, or so they say!  Never can be sure of what is true with this shower of charlatans in charge.  They are testing the vaccine against the new strain of the virus now, or so they say!

This imbecile will single handedly destroy the UK. He's a renowned liar and part of the reason he's struggling to get a Brexit deal is because he lies all the time. Now he's been caught lying about Christmas plans.

His tier plan didn't work last time, and led to a second national shutdown. Why not double down on a failed policy? What a moron.

The last three days have seen an average of 30,000+ new infections with 500+ deaths a day due to his moronic handling of COVID. Bear in mind that the weekend is also slowly reported, so the figures are probably much higher, and Mondays figures will be astronomical.

And please cut your hair. Your supposed to be the Prime Minister of the UK, not a clown on a windy day.

why cut the hair his idol in the US has the same

"Ewan Birney, deputy director general of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and joint director of its European Bioinformatics Institute in Cambridge...........said the vaccines have been tested with many variants of the virus circulating. “So there is every reason to think that the vaccines will still work against this new strain, though obviously that needs to be tested thoroughly.”

I feel honoured that Ewan Birney, deputy director general of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and joint director of its European Bioinformatics Institute in Cambridge agrees with me.

From the OP report:

"There's no evidence to suggest it is more lethal or causes more severe illness," Johnson said. "There's no evidence to suggest the vaccine will be any less effective against the new variant.

My oversight - apologies

3 days ago this charlatan was ridiculing the leader of the opposition for suggesting not easing lockdown conditions just for Christmas when it was obvious cases are starting to get out of control again. And now yet another reversal from this incompetent opportunist.

So far out of his depth on everything he touches.

Even a comb !

Before Johnson reversed himself, the scientists were clamouring that it was a terrible idea. He didn't listen. Why would he listen - he was told the tier plan wouldn't work, but hey, it didn't work the first time so let's try it again.

If you have a better idea, one that doesn't destroy the economy further then please enlighten us.

How would you know that if you weren't assuming? The strain was only recognized as a new strain within the past few weeks and it takes at least 28 days to test the vaccines (2 years for full monitoring), not to mention the fact that vaccines just started rolling out last week.

Besides, you're not looking at the bigger picture here, which should have been obvious to everyone from the first time they heard this was an RNA virus back in December. This vaccine most likely is effective for this newer strain, but by the time we see that and come back here to discuss it, we'll be talking about a completely different "new strain".

The new Covid strain can travel by plane around the world and this for free. It might be just a question of time until it arrives here in Thailand.

Higher ticket prices might make the virus think twice about traveling.
