Popular Post rooster59
Thailand set to add even more holidays in 2021 Thailand’s answer to boost its economy in 2021 is to give the public more holidays. The government is discussing giving additional holidays for every month of next year in a bid to stimulate the domestic tourism market. Thairath citing Deputy Prime Minister, Wissanu Krea-ngam reported that discussions about the additional holidays have already taken place at ministerial level and that plans will be proposed to Cabinet for approval. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, tour companies and agencies involved in tourism, as well as highway police have been invited to discuss the plans. February 12 has been earmarked as a potential date for the new holiday, while other holidays may be given to different regions in Thailand throughout the year. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2020-12-26 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1 3 1

Just where will this additional money come from for the workers and then of course the employers who will now loose production days which will only increase prices of goods or commodities in order to make up for the lost time as well as a reduction in goods and services. Does this Government understand that more time off gives the workers less money to spend, or if they are to be compensated then the employer looses money. How is this good for the economy, or domestic tourism. It will undoubtedly be an issue of running up credit cards and more borrowing by people to take the time off from work. Not seeing this as a good thing. If this is important to them then just make a 4/10 work week. 4 days worked/10 hours each day with a 3 day weekend every week, as well as the Government increasing the wages it pays. May nt be good for folks needing to obtain services but isn't that the same as adding more holidays to stimulate tourism. 15
Popular Post keith101
There is already 24 national/bank holidays , why would there need to be more than that . Absolutely unnecessary IMO i dont think people are going to have extra funds for these extra holidays .

Popular Post soi3eddie
Crazy idea that won't benefit the country economically. The population will be happy though without realising that ultimately it's of no benefit. Consumption is not the answer to economic woes. When your credit is maxxed out, valuable items pawned and you've got little income, the last thing you need is more time off for holidays. Production is the answer, more time spent doing productive pursuits and less time sitting eating and drinking and spending borrowed money. 4
Popular Post smedly
If people were working 5 days a week instead of 6 like most modern countries around the world then the working public would have a 2 day weekend every week to enjoy and spend money I can't remember when people in the west worked 6 days a week - certainly not in my life time 4

This is short term, low cost benefit for the Thais to use their expendable income and help support the failing tourist industry. There is a lot of wealth in bangkok and getting them to spread it around is a win win. Imo. Please don't respond with economics lesson 101....???? 4
Popular Post Misterwhisper
Yippieh! I am sure the work force - particularly unskilled laborers earning minimum daily wage - will rejoice and dancing in the streets for having an extra holiday every month... without pay, of course. You know what? Why not make 2021 a 365-day holiday year to "stimulate the economy"? The only downside to that is of course is: when people cannot earn, they cannot "stimulate".
brucegoniners
You know, I was just saying the other day that Thailand needs more holidays. More days where everything is closed. More days where Pattaya has a lot of traffic. More days where they ban alcohol sales. What a <deleted>#*ing joke!

Xonax
Silly me! I always thought that more holidays would hurt the economy (GDP). But now that the Thai economists have proven me wrong, I am all in for 365 holidays a year.

You understand that right? You seem to have missed they want to boost the economy by giving the public more days off. That is not just Government workers, big firms, banks etc. Additionally if it is a defined Government Holiday for the nation then the employers must give the extra days off. If they do not give them the time off, because it is a necessary business that must be operated then the holiday itself gets floated and is used on a different day. Making someone work extra hours to balance it out is only if they are paying them for the hours worked as well. You seem to have lost the grasp of Holidays being for the entire country. Little Lek at the bar would be the recipient of extra money coming in should they have patrons visit during this time, and plus they are not truly documented workers or paying taxes for that matter. You see the inequity here or not. Edited December 26, 2020 by ThailandRyan

You see the inequity here or not. I know for a fact that medium sized firms don’t necessarily give all the public holidays off, especially the Japanese owned companies. I think you missed the point of this. It is to boost the tourism economy as stated as it has been the worst hit because of covid. The pay half scheme has been very successful so far, keeping places open and putting people back to work. If you give holidays to Thais, they will travel. So government workers have a paid holiday and little Lek gets some of the money. Win, win. Not sure where the inequity is, Lek doesn’t pay taxes, why should she get a paid holiday? A well targeted scheme until the USA and Europe get their covid under control.
