These docudramas aren't a patch on the original documentaries.

Yer Some aren't---that last one 'The Wimbledon murder" wasn't so good. The first series of this was OK--- This was probably the most high profile abduction they have had in UK...as it went on to close down one of Murdoch's most profitable newspapers.

Fair enough each to their own.

The Imitation Game (2014) is also good, personally I did prefer it over The Courier, but just think how boring life would be if we all had exactly the same tastes :whistling:

A couple of movies I'm currently downloading to watch again:-

The Mule   --   2018  --  Clint Eastwood

Harry Brown   ---  2009  --- Michael Caine

Harry Brown is a classic. An amazing film. Apparently it was filmed in Caine's old neighborhood where he grew up. I also loved Youth. A Caine classic. Not for everyone, but directed by the brilliant Paul Sorrentino, to pitch perfection. A real masterpiece. Harvey Keitel, Paul Dano and Rachel Weisz were really good in it. It is a quiet and very subtle film, but funny, magical and gorgeous. I cannot even guess how many times I have seen it. One of Sorrentino's other classics is The Great Beauty. A magnificent film.

Did not get the Mule, and I am a big Eastwood fan. As both an actor and a director, he is a talent for the ages. Watched Pale Rider again recently. A masterpiece. Same goes for the Unforgiven, High Plains Drifter, the Changeling, Mystic River, Million Dollar baby, Gran Torino, American Sniper, Invictus, Flags of our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima, Heartbreak Ridge, A Perfect World, and to a lesser extent Hereafter, Jersey Boys, Sully, J. Edgar, Midnight in the Garden of good and evil, Trouble with the Curve, and Absolute power.

All worth a re-visit. I watch his top films, at least once every few years.

An anthology series centered around America's most notorious crimes and criminals.

This season  "Impeachment"   Clinton–Lewinsky scandal.

At the usual places.

I have always wondered, why Monica? He was president. He could have had Elle MacPherson types, all day long. Was he simply attracted to homely women?

I decided that 10 minutes into the first episode.

I am still watching it now episode 4 and it is getting a bit tough as quite a bit of time was spent watching the two female detectives and their torrid love affair. The whole premise of putting a civilian cop on a sub is a bit much to begin with and now this cable gets damaged so messages can be received,,,,,,,,,wow!

Yer I don't if Steve just managed to get the best lines--- but Mr Pink ..Fargo - pulp Fiction--Boardwalk Empire. he was classic.

Yer Angie has become a "not liked person" with this war on Brad Pitt.  I always assumed she had a Lip job like most of the other stars but looking at the pic seems she always had them.

And what was up with that double removal job, anyway? Was there ever a reasonable explanation for that? She seems quite insane.

"Opportunity presents itself"..... There's enough motivational quotes around that phase to fill a Tomb,

but I think that was just it--she was just there--& the days of doing a Kennedy , sneaking out the back way meeting a star & then everyone keeping quite about it were numbered.

It seemed safe--who would have thought she would keep a stained dress for ages.

Reservation Dogs.

I wouldn't call this must see t.v. unless you're native American. Otherwise, it has certain charms. It's kind of like a quirky indie movie in t.v. form. The native American aspect in the production and casting is historic.

Yeah, I tried it, and really wanted to like it. In general, I love Native, independent films. Fascinating stuff. The focus on the kids gave this a very juvenile feeling, and that was a bit hard to take. Maybe easier to comprehend and appreciate, if you have kids?

Beyond The Towers

New Aussie 4 part series.
Enjoyed episode 1.

RARBG

Summary: Mass murder in New York and Washington by the Al Qaeda terrorist group, led by Osama bin Laden, propelled the United States and its allies, including Australia, into a 20 year war in Afghanistan which they could not win.

Thanks, but a little too close to reality for me at the moment. As someone who really wanted to dump Trump, and a supporter of Biden, the way he handled the withdrawal, the rush to do so, the apparent lack of planning, is a bit hard to take, and a huge amount of egg on the face of the dems.

At the suggestion of several guys on this forum, after I asked my "Anyone finding Thailand annoying, and thinking about leaving?" post, I am avoiding the news, as much as I can right now!

Documentary: 9/11: Inside the President's War Room

This was really good.
Summary: This remarkable documentary shows exactly how 9/11 unfolded for George W Bush, from the multiple prayer breaks to the anti-anthrax pills – and the vow to ‘kick ass’ before he knew whose ass to kick.

Bet there is no mention of any potential "alternative agendas, nor why they did not even try to take down the 3rd and 4th plane.

Anyone seen Lucky (2017)? A small film, which happened to be the last film, for the great Harry Dean Stanton. He died just a few months after shooting wrapped, at 91. And there is a sense of foreboding in the film, almost a goodbye to the world. Charming, funny, sweet, good natured, and uplifting. And shot just north of Phoenix, for any who appreciates those wonderful desert vistas. And a good supporting cast. Nice banter. Well shot, nice pacing, and a stellar performance from Harry. A small film, and may be slow paced for some, but once you get into it, it really grabs you. Lovely little film.

Wayne looks really good. Just started it. After the death of his father, a good-hearted 16-year-old vigilante sets out with his new friend to get back his dad's stolen '79 Trans Am. He is 16 years old, and does not take <deleted> from anyone. Nice to see a strong kid portrayed, who does not suffer fools. Very entertaining.

True. And it is not a great film. But, it is decent. And Damon is always a treat to watch. He is very selective about the projects he takes on, and is rarely ever disappointing. And he is one of the great actors of this generation, in my opinion. Who else is on his level? Besides DiCaprio, Bale, Downey Jr. (when he is not doing the amusement park trash), Ali, Brolin, Bardem, Denzel, DaFoe, Cumberbatch, Oldman, Gosling, B. Cooper, Phoenix, Pitt, and a few others?

This was posted on here a few days ago so I gave it a look see.

Thought it was interesting to get a glimpse of Liberace off stage and Damon/Douglas did well.

Might not appeal to some ????

This is a great movie. Some may be turned off by the gay theme, but if you can get past that, it is a great story, both Douglas (won the SAG award, as well as many others) and Damon (nominated for the SAG award and many others) are outstanding, and the film rocks! Recently downloaded it to watch again. Done by Soderbergh, has a good supporting cast, and a sizable budget of $23 million, all of which is up there on the screen. It is a really fun watch, and does not take itself too seriously.

Watched "Nine Perfect Strangers" last night, but really struggled not to scream, and I shall not pursue further episodes. It was a close call as to which actor was the worst, but Nicole Kidman may have secured the top spot.

It does not surprise me that those involved in the Big Little Lies and The Undoing were also responsible for this. Created by David E Kelley, who I think has literally lost the plot recently.

No doubt he is going for the easy bucks. Worth $250 million already. You would think at a given point a man would want to make his mark on the world and not just collect a check. He was the creator of Goliath, which was great, but what does creator mean, anyway? Big Little lies was hugely popular. I did not get it. Liked The Undoing. That was fun.

Has been since Boston Legal, that he has done anything good. Some seem to like Mr. Mercedes. He has done alot of cornball stuff, that is popular, like Doogie Howser, LA Law, etc.

Gomorrah is quite astonishing. So is Romanza Criminale.

The series is set around Don Pietro Savastano (Fortunato Cerlino), whose bored but pampered wife Imma (Maria Pia Calzone) and spoiled and soft 20-year-old son Gennaro (aka “Genny“) aren’t ready to uphold the Savastanoname. Genny’s too busy being coddled by the otherwise ruthless Don Pietro, a very similar theme to the woes of Tony Soprano when it came to being both loving father and feared enforcer. But, how Genny evolves!

Gomorrah is on my top 3 list of everything made on TV. And its based on a true story.

It developed from a totally failed housing project in Napoli. It became the most murderous neighborhood in Europe. One of the towers stills stands. "Le vele di scampia"

Also worth checking out is the movie: "L'Immortale". Part of the same story.

Why would you put yourself through the first 3 episodes, if you thought it was that bad?

I struggled to get through episode 1.

We all have different tastes, some on here really rate it.

I have enjoyed episodes 1-3, but at 4 it's starting to go off the boil, with flashbacks as to how the two female detectives explored their personal feelings towards each other. Rose Leslie is positively cringing in the initial kiss scenes. I'm not sure how far it will deteriorate.

An old favorite that I'd forgotten about popped into mind recently. Checked my "Movies Keep" HDD because I 'm sure I had it, but disappointingly don't have it.

Been searching the usual Torrent sites but no luck

Anyone know any obscure old movie site might have it to download.

The Beauty Jungle  1964   --  AKA - Contest Girl

Yes, it’s available on all the obscure cult movie sites.

Was it ever shown on UK TV?

The Cleaner (2021)

tv series 6 eps

6.9 imdb

Greg Davies ( Man down, Taskmaster, Inbetweeners, Cuckoo) stars as Paul ‘Wicky’ Wickstead a cleaner of crime scenes.

Expect some outlandish humour and unlikely situations from GD with some help from David Mitchell ( Peep Show ) and Stephanie Cole ( Man Down, Doc Martin)

A far cry from:

Cleaner (2007)

6.1 imdb

Sam L Jackson, Ed Harris and Eva Mendes among others.

Jackson stars as Tom Cutler, a retired police officer now runs a company which specialises in crime scene clean up. He is assigned a clean up job post a homicide. After doing the job he discovers that he has been conned into cleaning up a crime scene and must try to unravel the mystery behind what happened in that house.

Not a great rating from imdb but anything with Eva Mendes must be worth watching imho.

Well “ The Cleaner “ is absolutely atrocious !!

Greg Davies has made an absolute stinker of a comedy series, unfunny , annoying , surprised it made it past the pilot .

On the other hand

” Cleaner “ is an okay crime mystery , not gonna win any awards but okay.
