For months many people in Thailand have got lax in their adoption of the Covid-19 protocols.

After months without cases people had stopped wearing masks in some areas or were only doing it half-heartedly.

QR codes scanning checkpoints at malls were unmanned as people didn't bother to check-in and out.

Even social distancing and hand washing, core principles in the fight against spread of the virus were given lip service.

It was felt that the virus was no longer in Thailand, so why bother with all those inconveniences.

No more.

The recent outbreak at a Samut Sakhon market and cases throughout the country have now seen to that.

Now Hua Hin is stepping  up its COVID-19 precautions with local mayor Noppaporn Wutthikun instructing his deputies to get tough at local markets and key locations throughout the town.

A total of SEVEN screening points have been put in place at Chatchai market and two at Chomsin 4 market.

New TV reported the proper wearing of masks - not under the chin or nose - the use of QR codes on the Thai Chana/Morchana tracing apps, handwashing and social distancing were all being insisted upon.

Elsewhere in the holiday town, home to many expats, deep cleaning has also taken place, including at key locations such as Market Village, Tesco Lotus and Soi 55.

Earlier this week, Hua Hin confirmed its first case of COVID-19 linked to the new wave of infections sweeping the country.

On Tuesday, the provincial governor announced a series of measures aimed at limiting the spread of the virus, which included closing bars, pubs, fitness centres and schools, as well as prohibiting the sale of alcohol at restaurants. Shopping malls, supermarkets and convenience stores are allowed to remain open.

That's in a different province, for now I guess you're ok but if things get any worse you might need a permission slip to cross the 'border'.

I've already heard reports of people who can't go to work each day without first going to a crowded office, standing in line and getting a permissions slip as they live in one province and work in another.
