I don't think there will be any way to unite core Trumpers whatever happens. Only the less radical fringe of GOP voters may be concerned, and they likely won't care too much about what happened to Trump.

 

Having said that, from a pure tactical perspective, it may be in the Dems' interest to terminate Trump's political career. Trump will be a perfect boogeyman and a key factor for future Dem electoral wins, if he's still active on the political scene.

Ensuring 45 can't run in 2024 is one of the driving forces behind this impeachment, but the most important point is punishing deplorable, deadly behavior.

5 people died in the Capitol or in it's immediate aftermath.Trump supporters are perfectly incapable of getting their heads around that and remain,at their core,mendacious and contumacious and as a consequence they are not worth responding to.

I mostly agree but I don't think Mr. trump is going to go away as long as he has his very large core base. It's like they literally worship him. 

Also whether he's banned or not for running again, there are his very ambitious children. I certainly hope that Donald Jr. is convicted for incitement of insurrection (or whatever is the correct legal charge) for his massively inflammatory speech on the day of the domestic terrorist attack on the U.S. capitol. It's time for consequences!

Gop starting to jump ship. McConnell hates trump. Kinzinger and Cheney have also confirmed they will vote to impeach trump.
