Amazing Thailand.

In a normal country, they would declare: "ALL corrupt policemen WILL face criminal action"

SOME countries have the death penalty for corruption. Worth a try.

Im surprised that these people have even been found to have embezzled money being they are quite high in the chain of command.

But but but, they don't understand the law (even though they are the law) so should be excused from any wrong doing.

These are unprecedented times, with COVID.

Inactive posts and back to business as usual shortly.

The Royal Thai Police Office completed the first round of its investigation into alleged embezzlement of COVID-related allowances.

Seems wrong to me that the investigation is being conducted by RTP ?

Also seems wrong that none of 189 senior Police officers have been reported as being dismissed from the service.

They cannot help themselves, corruption in ingrained here,

it's never going to change, because few face any serious

charges when they get caught, sent off to inactive post,

till things are forgotten.

When I lived out in rural Issan, I had this stunning neighbor in the moo ban. Incredible body, better than you'd see in any go go. I often heard her when she went outside on the phone. She had at least three farang sponsors going that she had snagged from her bargirl days. Sometimes she'd have them on speaker, and I could hear them begging and groveling, that they could be the only one, and get better returns on their investment. Man. Those chicks are real good at what they do.

They also work both sides of the street. In addition to her farang paydays, I'd see Benzes parked out in the soi which she'd go hop in, with older, business type Thais peeking out. The kicker was when a high ranking RTP would occasionally come pick her up, brazenly in his police pickup, which he'd then park right out in front of the bar down the street, where the drinks would flow all night for her and her friends. He had no qualms about letting it be known that policework, despite their supposedly low salary, was his ticket to the high life.

Suspend the lot with NO PAY and then terminate them on HALF Pension for the rest of their life.

AND make them  'Personna non grata ' at ALL RTP establishments.

Send a message to others.

A lot, if you read about how various franchise chains underpay their staff in Australia.

Corruption is everywhere, it's just more blatant here.

Underpaying staff is not the same as stealing their wages from them.

I don't think that will work! The message is clear.....wear (buy) the uniform, reap the benefits!

They just can't help it, can they?

How  many bosses in Western countries would steal the overtime pay or bonuses of their staff?

They should all be sacked. No inactive posts.

Agree with you however...

nothing really new about Western bosses stealing... heres but one example:

1991 Newspaper magnet Robert Maxwell mysterious death but... “His death on 5 November 1991 shocked the country. Shock turned to anger within weeks when a £460m hole was discovered in the pension funds of his companies.”

They have to start somewhere, and I'm impressed that this dirty linen is being washed in such public view. And I don't care if the penalties are not severe, this still seems like a new turn of events. Corruption is the system, but like the old saying crime doesn't pay, it's not a sustainable business model in the modern world in the long run. Unless of course China completely takes over the world, then that's a different matter.

To paraphrase Cato the Elder: China delenda est.

The only hope for Thailand is to completely disband the police force and start again (I believe Hong Kong did something similar decades ago). But they would also need to do the same with the army otherwise they would just move in and fill the void.

With What/Who would they Replace them? In Aus  when the young cops start they get Transferred  to another city /town every 2 years so that they can't get a real foot hold in their district for corruption.

And what will be done about this? The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) is one of the most feeble and ineffective of all the tools Prayuth has used to deceive the people into believing that he is fighting corruption. Who was the last high level authority, in the police, immigration, the army, or the active administration they arrested, charged, tried convicted, and sent to prison? Nobody. Zero. Nunca. Nada.

Will these guys be looking at a conviction? Of course not. At most a transfer, at full pay. After all, Prayuth has promised to protect them, and he has spent all his might, for six years doing so.

A lot of outrage on this forum. I didn’t realize the love was so strong for the police.

I think it is funny, cops ripping off cops.

Better than them ripping off the citizens.

I couldn’t less about them.

The police don't care about their own. Just look at the red bull guy 'Boss'. He ran over and killed a cop whilst drunk and high on cocaine, then drove away.

The cops tried so hard to get him off - bribing officials, changing their statements, changing the evidence, finding new witnesses and pretty much refusing to issue an interpol red notice.

If they can't look after their own, how can we expect them to look after the general public? Time they were all sacked and replaced with trustworthy and reliable officers.

They people just cannot help sticking their Hands in the Cookie Jar.

Corruption is akin to a Cancerous Growth in Thailand, and blights every corner of Society here.

To be honest I don’t mind the thai style of law.

If Red Bull bloke had deliberately killed the copper it would have been different. But it was an accident, not intent.

Again, I couldn’t care less, but many members on this forum seem to have a love for the police that I can’t understand.

He didn’t mean it, he paid off the coppers family and apologized, which is better for everyone, the family gets some cash, Red Bull gets his freedom, and the coppers get a windfall for organizing it.
A win, win, win. Everybody happy and a good way to sort an unfortunate accident.

Throw him in jail, he wastes years of his life, the family get nothing, the coppers miss out on their windfall and the taxpayer has to house and feed him.
A lose, lose, lose, lose.

The thai system makes more sense. Everyone is a winner. Sending him to jail isn’t going to bring the copper back to life.

Nothing to see hear.  After an investigating all will be found to be normal and just a misunderstanding.

The family still get their payout regardless of whether or not he goes to jail.

House and feed him in a Thai jail... Have you seen the state of those prisons?

The rich and powerful should be subject to the same rules as those who don't have cash - otherwise it's just a lawless society. I'm rich and this guy just annoyed me. Kill him in cold blood and pay a pittance to his family... No justice, everyone loses.

Methinks a lot of inactive post vacancies are about to be filled.

They get more if they “forgive” him.

Still costs money. The thai jails do a very good job of keeping costs down though.

He didn’t kill him in cold blood. It was an accident. A big difference. The copper was walking on a motorway at night.

I kind of like knowing that there is an option if I have an unfortunate accident.

I have paid my way out of drink driving before. Learnt my lesson and actually hadn’t planned to drive that night anyway because of drinking, but the bloke I had earlier organized to drive my car home let me down. Still, it was a bad decision.

Copper wanted 20,000. But I only had 7,000 on me and he took it.

Pattaya, corner of Pattaya Tai and Second Road. 4 years ago.

He was happy, I avoided a night locked up in a cell with yaba affected horny ladyboys and a court appearance the next morning.
Win win. No harm done.

What a load of Red Bull <deleted>, accident? - the little toe -rag was p*ssed and high on drugs that makes him responsible for the death. He should now in jail along with anyone involved in the cover-up and the family fined to the hilt for organising and going along with the cover-up - the money going to the family with ongoing support - - but unfortunately it's the usual "don't you know who I am" - - and that's not a question, it's a statement of watch your a rse in Thailand.

Well, you need the government to actually want to do it in the first place for it to ever change!
