'We must end this uncivil war,' Biden says, taking over a U.S. in crisis

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I don't think we know exactly where the Biden Admin (including his incoming Justice Dept.) is going to end up on all of Trump's excesses.

I THINK, if Trump had just left it at challenging the election results (baselessly), Biden and Co. might have let it pass.

But then Trump escalated it with the Georgia Sec. of State inducement to commit election fraud phone call, and then set the country on fire (figuratively) by inciting the attack on Capitol Hill/attempted insurrection.

Those latter issues I don't think Biden and his incoming Justice Department can walk away from as regards to Trump.... But time will tell.... no matter how much they're committed to bipartisanship and ending civil strife.

Perhaps the Senate will come along, convict Trump on the impeachment charge by 2/3rds vote,  and then ban any future candidacy by majority vote. That would simplify things quite a bit. But I don't think enough of the Republican senators have the gumption for that.

To stop this uncivil war, joseph should have persuaded Pelosi to drop this second impeachment debacle.  It's clear, though, he wants the uncivil war to continue.

I assume that you mean the civil war that Trump nearly started even before the November 2020 elections.

I presume that you have seen nothing wrong in Trump's Tweets encouraging the "Proud Boys" and their ilk to attack the Congress building to stop Pence from announcing the official result. If they could have got hold of Pence they wanted to hang him, in addition to any Democrat Congress persons they could catch.

From what I saw of President Biden's speech he is leaving the impeachment where it belongs, which is the Congress and the Senate.

Why shouldn't Trump be punished for splitting the USA and attempting to overthrow the incoming government? Is he a sacred person who should never be punished for anything that he has done for the past 4 years.

If that is so then you are just another Trump supporter who cannot accept the truth and reality.

To stop this civil war, we need to deprogram a bunch of Trump's supporters.  Especially since many still believe the election was stolen!  Not very smart....

Anyway, many of the leaders of the attempted coup are in jail, with more to follow.  And NO pardons from Trump, even though he instigated them to do so.

Love the comments from the Proud Boys.  Too funny.

‘A Total Failure’: The Proud Boys Now Mock Trump

Members of the far-right group, who were among Donald Trump’s staunchest fans, are calling him “weak” as more of them were charged for storming the U.S. Capitol.

But by this week, the group’s attitude toward Mr. Trump had changed. “Trump will go down as a total failure,” the Proud Boys said in the same Telegram channel on Monday.

Deprogram? A horrible word that just doesn't sound very free and democratic. Does it?

You must be joking.

The above listed "credible sources" are full of left wing lies and misinformation.

They will hype or bury a story based on their bias political narrative.

People see them doing it every day. They are no longer trusted.

My post was in response to the word "deprogram" because it fits in very well with what a psychologist had said, and which I mentioned in one of my previous posts, so I will repeat that for your perusal..

"I was tempted to call them nutters/loonies, but a recent article I read puts a different light on it, inasmuch as a lot of the people in movements like QAnon (and ardent trump followers) are not necessarily nutters, but there is another reason for them being there – – they are disturbed in one way or another and as one writer puts it, "What attracts Gilbert and many other people to QAnon isn't just the content of the conspiracy theory itself. It's the community and sense of mission it provides. New QAnon believers are invited to chat rooms and group texts, and their posts are showered with likes and retweets. They make friends and are told that they are not lonely Facebook addicts squinting at zoomed-in paparazzi photos but patriots gathering "intel" for a righteous revolution".

And the stuff they believe in, you just couldn't make it up, for example: – "Like all QAnon faithful, she is convinced that the world is run by a Satanic group of paedophiles that includes top Democrats and Hollywood elites, and that President Donald Trump has spent years leading a top-secret mission to bring these evildoers to justice".

And even more frightening, "This social element also means that QAnon followers aren't likely to be persuaded out of their beliefs with logic and reason alone".

So it's going to be very hard to deprogram these poor ignorant individuals, if indeed it is ever possible. That was the basis of my comment.

You are right, the social aspect is important. Participating in these social networks and forum give them a sense of recognition, of being valuable. After excluding the opportunists who participate only for their own financial or political interest, most of them are on the low side 're IQ and/or level of information.

They cannot participate in a "normal" forum and post B.S. without being rebuked and qualified as stupid. In alternate universe forums, they get answers such as "It's interesting", "I agree with you", "I think like you!" for whatever nonsense they may post.

This social aspect is likely a barrier to coming back to reality. The other problem is that a core of them is completely anchored in an alternate reality, beyond QAnon. They also believe in creationism and in other conspiracy theories such Trump's election fraud scam, computer chips in vaccines, etc.... For this core, I think there's no hope.

You wouldn't believe them anyway as they came from the MSM such as the BBC, CNN and several other broadcasters.

As for showing them I have no idea how to look up past news clips. I tried once before to find a clip on the BBC which was about 2 weeks old and I gave up in the end. So for me trying to find stuff that is several months old is like winning the lottery. I know that there are some people who do win but I have never actually met any of them.

Finally the world can get back to some sort of normality.   No more crazy twitter messages from Trump and fake news.   Let us have law and order, and peace.

I must say even though it probably came from a speechwriter that describing the division in the U.S. now as an uncivil war resonates really well. It's well understood by now that the U.S. has not been this divided since the actual civil war. But even though American democracy just survived a near death experience with a clearly fascistic dictator wannabe leader and an attempt at a violent self coup to keep him in power, we aren't actually in a literal civil war (yet anyway). Words matter and using the word uncivil to reflect our current deep divisions and seeing each others as enemies puts that reality out on the table. Now how to fix it, well, best of luck to him and all Americans! Because if we don't, then the great American experiment is doomed (and I'm not sure how long we have to turn this around).
