I don't think we know exactly where the Biden Admin (including his incoming Justice Dept.) is going to end up on all of Trump's excesses.

 

I THINK, if Trump had just left it at challenging the election results (baselessly), Biden and Co. might have let it pass.

 

But then Trump escalated it with the Georgia Sec. of State inducement to commit election fraud phone call, and then set the country on fire (figuratively) by inciting the attack on Capitol Hill/attempted insurrection.

 

Those latter issues I don't think Biden and his incoming Justice Department can walk away from as regards to Trump.... But time will tell.... no matter how much they're committed to bipartisanship and ending civil strife.

 

Perhaps the Senate will come along, convict Trump on the impeachment charge by 2/3rds vote,  and then ban any future candidacy by majority vote. That would simplify things quite a bit. But I don't think enough of the Republican senators have the gumption for that.

You are right, the social aspect is important. Participating in these social networks and forum give them a sense of recognition, of being valuable. After excluding the opportunists who participate only for their own financial or political interest, most of them are on the low side 're IQ and/or level of information.

They cannot participate in a "normal" forum and post B.S. without being rebuked and qualified as stupid. In alternate universe forums, they get answers such as "It's interesting", "I agree with you", "I think like you!" for whatever nonsense they may post.

 

This social aspect is likely a barrier to coming back to reality. The other problem is that a core of them is completely anchored in an alternate reality, beyond QAnon. They also believe in creationism and in other conspiracy theories such Trump's election fraud scam, computer chips in vaccines, etc.... For this core, I think there's no hope.

You wouldn't believe them anyway as they came from the MSM such as the BBC, CNN and several other broadcasters.

 

As for showing them I have no idea how to look up past news clips. I tried once before to find a clip on the BBC which was about 2 weeks old and I gave up in the end. So for me trying to find stuff that is several months old is like winning the lottery. I know that there are some people who do win but I have never actually met any of them.

 

At 76 my long term memory is good, but the short term memory doesn't seem to last more than a week.

I must say even though it probably came from a speechwriter that describing the division in the U.S. now as an uncivil war resonates really well. It's well understood by now that the U.S. has not been this divided since the actual civil war. But even though American democracy just survived a near death experience with a clearly fascistic dictator wannabe leader and an attempt at a violent self coup to keep him in power, we aren't actually in a literal civil war (yet anyway). Words matter and using the word uncivil to reflect our current deep divisions and seeing each others as enemies puts that reality out on the table. Now how to fix it, well, best of luck to him and all Americans! Because if we don't, then the great American experiment is doomed (and I'm not sure how long we have to turn this around).
