Since the many years I live here I've been wondering why so many Thai people sleep with the light on. Never could come up with an answer....

I've always assumed it was to avoid ghosts.

Or they fell asleep with the light on.

That's also my understanding. Are ghosts supposed to scared by the light??????? Or another possibility would be perhaps to enlighten the brain overnight???? To be considered..????

One person can get up without waking others (no new light required)?

Once I got used to it have found a night light to be excellent.

Yes...and also my GF always locks the bedroom door...which gives me fits as I get up much earlier and invariably fumble around with a deadbolt at 5 AM. Again...presumably to keep out ghosts but perhaps to keep me in ?
