The Digital Economy and Society Ministry has warned people not to believe or share news and Internet posts claiming that injecting 10,000 milligrams of Vitamin C can help prevent Covid-19.

“The ministry’s Anti-Fake News Centre contacted the Department of Health Service Support, Ministry of Public Health to verify this information and was told that there was no concrete evidence proving that a Vitamin C injection could help prevent the new coronavirus,” said the Centre via its Facebook page.

“Any hospital or clinic providing vitamin injection services that makes such a claim is committing puffery and could be punishable by either imprisonment or fine,” it said, adding, “To protect oneself from getting infected with Covid-19, people must maintain social distancing, wear a face mask in public, wash their hands regularly, and eat freshly cooked foods.”

Please do not share wrong information, as it could spread misunderstanding amid the outbreak, the ministry said.

For more information, contact Department of Health Service Support on tel No. 1667 or www.hss.moph.go.th.”

Up to 2g of vit C can be taken daily as a food supplement, to boost narural intake and improve immune system.
Higher doses and by injection can be prescribed by doctor, rather during treatment, than as prevention.
as prevention it would have to be given every day, as this vitamin doesn't accumulate in the body for long. Doses for injection in thailand are only 500mg, so anything bigger would be given as a drip.
but punishing clinics for false claims is stupid and counterproductive, just a show of power by authorities. Making a statement by this anti-fake news centre only propagates this treatment. Only very few people would otherwise heard of it.

vit C is such dose is harmless, as exess will be removed from the body

Through kidneys and if you're prone to kidney stones, that won't be so harmless...

And the associated diarrhea that comes with high Vit C doses is just annoying.

There is proof that 1,000mg of Vit C daily does aid in  improving your immune system

Any correlation specifically  to the Covid virus is as yet unknown but obviously

people in good health with a good immune system must have a better chance of if not catching,

certainly fighting it once contracted

High does Vit C is being used  with covid patients in diffferent parts of the world, it's also used in many other diseases including cancer treatments. So perhaps the article about prevention was "fake" or misunderstood the difference between treatment measures versus a preventative one.

If you google High  does vitamin C you'll see a lot of respected institutions with articles around high does vitamin c, but it's only part of the treatment and I think it's more about helping repair the damage covid is doing as apposed to curing or attacking covid specifically.

Surely if it's mixed with alcohol it must have some benefit.  Talking of which I'm nearly out of Stolichnaya.

Hang on, if its being used with covid patients then its a bit too late to 'prevent' covid. Yes, it is used as part of a regime sometimes but to state that 10g of Vit C (equivalent to 400 oranges) will prevent covid is just hogwash. Great for the orange industry though..

Vit C may not be as affective as Vid D in lessening the symptoms of Covid19.  Reports below.

https://www.news-medical.net/news/20210106/Vitamin-D-supplementation-found-to-reduce-COVID-19-related-mortality.aspx

This reference relates to an article uploaded to a non-peer reviewed self publishing server  medRxiv, and is therefore not considered as reliable scientific information. The article itself has this footnote

"*Important Notice

medRxiv publishes preliminary scientific reports that are not peer-reviewed and, therefore, should not be regarded as conclusive, guide clinical practice/health-related behavior, or treated as established information."

https://clinicalmolecularallergy.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12948-020-00139-0

This reference itself refers to a simple scan of existing scientific papers, not research. It is mostly supposition, containing phrases like "it can be assumed" , and "it is reasonable to hypothesise" and contains no experimental data demonstrating any beneficial effect of Vitamin D supplementation on Covid 19 outcomes at all.

The summary of the paper, written by the authors, includes the sentence:

"The effects of vitamin D supplementation during covid 19 infection remain controversial."

and a key  point, also written by the authors, admits there is little evidence:

"•Despite the potential effectiveness of vitamin D as an antiviral, more solid data are needed to support this claim."

Therefore positive effects of vitamin D on the outcome of Covid have not been reliably established.

As a side note  vitamin K levels could mean something , if you're one of those that goes through a serious case of covid-19 and is hospitalized.

A small study INDICATED that those with high levels of vitamin K levels had a larger chance to survive.

Not a large study and no peer reviews and such, but could be interesting to research more.

So maybe eat your green veggies, they might save you ????

In other words, just eat a well balanced diet.  You shouldn't have to worry about supplements unless something is seriously wrong, or if you live in a northern climate.

Whilst you are theoretically correct that high doses of vitamin C are not harmful, there are harms involved in clinics making false claims about high dose injects. First, it gives the patient a false sense of security instead of following proper medical protocols. Second, and much more important, injections of vitamins should be avoided except in the case of the extremely ill in a hospital setting. Vitamin injections are difficult to keep safe and go off very easily. And any medical intervention that is unnecessary is a risk that is unnecessary. Vitamins can be taken orally - much safer.

Vit. D is highly suggested to eventually reinforce the immune sistem and eventually get a milder version of the virus .

See John Campbell/ You Tube / Vit D

Vit C has a similar function .

Vitamin D is highly suggested if you don't get a lot of sun and live in a northerly climate.  It is the ONE thing that I take in the winter only because I live in a northerly climate.

Too much vitamin D is terrible for you.  Just remember to follow a doctors advice and for god's sake don't overdo it.  Things go from good for you to terrible for your entire body when you OD on it and it's very easy to do with these vitamins.

I take 1,000 to 2,000 iu per day dependent on the amount of sunshine and taper off towards when the sun gets stronger.

Does it cure COVID?  No.  Could it help if you have it?  Maybe.  Don't believe it will because it's just rumour and there is no confirmed scientific evidence on it.

Does it prevent COVID?  Absolutely not.

Again, if you need vitamin C why not just eat an apple?  It's much better for you than taking supplements, cheaper, and much easier.

I don't think it's actually "easy" to overdo Vitamin D but yes it is possible. You'd have to take megadoses of it for a long time to do that. As far as sunlight, yes that's the most common source (getting it from diet is not realistic) but keep in mind there are many factors that suppress absorbing the vitamin meaning they need more (sunlight and/or supplements) to get to the optimum levels. For examples, old age and obesity.

Forget C.

Look into D.

There is indeed a strong correlation between Covid-19 severe cases and deaths and Vitamin D deficiency.

No guarantees but to me it seems like common sense to make sure you're getting enough D either from sunlight or supplements.

Indeed. It is believed many if not most people wintering in Northern areas are suffering from Vit-D  deficiency (actually not a vitamin but a hormone being pedantic) and a supplement is recommended.

Prevention of what? A normal diet provides enough vitamin C, anything more is excreted with urine, not causing stones by the way. There is no evidence for an effect, whatever that may be, on the immune system.
