Ha ha ha ha , somebody is waking up to what Thai tourism is all about , bar girls and prostitution are OK now .

I guess they will have to hurriedly renovate Pattaya's Walking Street , sponsor people to open the bars and get everything functioning as before .

What happened to Neo Pattaya? It sounds as though it will be the same as before?

I seem to remember the TAT targeting high end tourists many years ago. No doubt some smart alec got many slaps on the back for his wonderful idea. Nothing changed, the only sexy thing about Thailand is the girls and the night life, or the lady boys if you are that way inclined. How can you make Pattaya high end for instance, you can't swim in the sea for turds , the only real entertainment is about drinking and girls. Maybe the islands could go high end but that would take billions of baht for developement. To change anything in Thailand would take a twenty year plan.

So in other words he wants to go back to the way things were before they (TAT and the gov't) decided they preferred Indian and Chinese tourists ?

You know, the time when places like Walking Street were thriving and the money was flowing. So much so that many major projects were funded in anticipation that the money would continue to flow like rivers.
That is, until TAT decided that they didn't want "white" tourists anymore and decided that hordes of lower spending Indians and Chinese would be better.

Now maybe they are realizing that all those high spending "white" tourists weren't so bad after all ?

I would think that he's thinking about the new high class spa's that the Chinese will build in walking St.

He accepted that post pandemic the numbers may be down but he'll be targeting the high spenders.

So the spending will actually be UP!

Delusional rubbish from people in positions who have no idea what they're doing.

No wonder the tourism workers are suffering so much when this is the best idea that they can collectively come up with.

The tourism workers should insist on this lot be ousted and make way for some fresh blood who know how to market Thailand realistically.

Does that mean they'll be heading straight to the GoGo bars in Cowboy then Pattaya?

A new airline called "A-go-go" will shorty be formed, cabin crew will wear skimpy apparel, offer chocolate coated strawberries and offer ping-pong sports to entertain the passengers. At he airport you will be picked up in an executive coach [leary paint-job and booming music] and you'll be whisked away to the nearest nefarious bar where you'll be greeted by more female assistants lined up on stage for your attention.

Bring lots of cash.

One day he will realise that they won't be targeting Thailand. More rubbish spouted every time TAT makes an announcement - did they learn nothing from their 'STV Extravaganda'?

I hope they don't also offer a dart show - aircraft need to maintain cabin pressure ????.

You may be right but there's no point in marketing Thailand at all whilst quarantine remains.

Sorry, no.  It would be nice to be the big cheese again but, sadly, we are not. 2019 visitor stats:  Asian tourists:  25 million.  Western tourists: 8 million.  (Of the Asian, 10.9 million Chinese, the other 15 million from other Asian countries, so not all Chinese, or Indian, for that matter.)

8 million visitors from western countries is nothing to sneeze at but it's not going to fill all those hotel rooms that were built in the past few years--or fill places like the massive new Terminal 21 in Pattaya with a steady flow of large numbers of tourists for all those many shops and restaurants.  8 million may have worked pre-2010 but not now.

It might be nice to think that 'major projects' were 'funded' by those 8 million but in reality, at least in Pattaya, that is not the case.  The major projects Pattaya has seen the past few years have been to accommodate the large influx of new tourists, most of them Asian, and more of them families, couples, and young groups traveling together.   The major developments to accommodate them have not been by Walking Street.  Instead, they've been in central to north Pattaya, Naklua/Wongamat, Jomtien, and other areas.  D'Luck Theater with the Kaan show wasn't built by Walking Street, either--it's in Jomtien.  The two big, new water parks are out of town, as is the new Legend Siam and the expanded Nongnooch Gardens.  Pattaya tourism has grown geographically and is now more in greater Pattaya.

Construction continues even now with covid.  Two large new highrise hotels are being built in Wongamat and Naklua, and another across from Central Festival.  Two big, new condo projects are going up on 3rd Road, as well as a number in Jomtien, including the massive Copacabana.  More additions that require an expanding tourist demographic, not a shrinking one.

The head of the Tourism Authority of Thailand has proposed what he called "sexy" tourism to spur Thailand's recovery from the pandemic.

He was definitely not referring to an image of the country from yesteryear but a brave new way forward to attract "quality tourists".

Governor Yutthasak Suphasorn's vision is to inspire confidence among Thais in domestic tourism as a number one priority.

He accepted that post pandemic the numbers may be down but he'll be targeting the high spenders.

So the spending will actually be UP!

For this group safety and the environment really rocks their boat,  he told Channel 7.

"They want sexy tourism,' he enthused.

Yes, high value tourism was the way to recover past glories after the Covid-19 pandemic recedes, he suggested.

My wonder is, after cleaning up Khao San and Walking Street and wanting to close down the sex industry and places like Poseidon failing, what exactly is going to cause a rush of tourism?

They need to identify what will induce tourism not just get rid of what has caused tourism in the past. Bucks-up tourists have their pick of where to go.
