Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, founder of the now-dissolved Future Forward Party, speaks during a press conference in Bangkok on January 21, 2021, after he was accused on Wednesday of contravening Thailand’s strict royal defamation lese majeste laws by posting a video criticising the government’s Covid-19 coronavirus vaccine strategy. Thailand’s Royal Forest Department lodged a complaint with the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD) on Thursday, accusing three Juangroongruangkit family members of illegal possession of more than 320 hectares of land in national forest reserves in the central province of Ratchaburi.

The complaint was lodged jointly by Royal Forest Department Director-General Mr. Adisorn Nutdamrong and Mr. Chivaparb Chivatham, director of the Forest Protection and Forest Fire Control Office, with Pol Maj-Gen Pitak Uthaitham, commander of NRECD.

Named in the formal complaint are Mrs. Somporn Juangroongruangkit, her son Thanathorn, leader of the anti-establishment Progressive Movement, and Ms. Chanaphan.

Perhaps his family also have illegal walkie-talkies?

Wouldn't have been bought in good faith from corrupt officials,

nah! couldn't be that simple, or could it?

an the other MP can get away with it because she is a friend of the PM??? but this family has to pay for everything because they they don't like the Government??

They have learnt their lessons well since 2001.

Cannot allow others to challenge the status quo and they certainly don't want another Thaksin coming along, look how long it took to get rid of him given his popularity!

Nipping it in the bud this time.

Assuming these charges have merit, he's giving them plenty of rope - and this ain't the first time. I thought he was supposed to be smarter than that.

Isn´t it amazing how so many persons can own illegal land? Wonder how they can still look with open eyes on their justice system without feeling any shame. The answer is simple! We just try to put the focus on other things, so we still can keep our ugly face intact.

Every super rich Thai is involved in corruption one way or another, otherwise they would not be super rich in the first place.

Some may be less corrupt than others

The next thing you will read will be that Aung San Su Chi was storing illegal equipment on his land ????

Must be a lot of info missing in the report.
The Forrest Department allocated lots of land over the past 50 years for farming my wives family also owns such land.
Such land can't be legally sold only inherited or used for anything else but personal living and farming.
The big question is how did his family acquire the land?
Where my wives family's land is officials have been illegally allowing the sale of land and even transferring it.
Some have even used to build but the consensus is if acquired and used for nothing else but farming there will be no problems.
The other MP who was accused built a chicken farm which wasn't allowed but was let off and by the way their land is directly next to each others.
Will they be going after everyone who acquired such land as there must be a lot I most of it has change ownership over the past 30 years ?
Will Land Department officials also be implicated and punished?

If illegal why only a Civil suit and not Criminal?

3 family members, not him personally.

It’s helpful to read beyond the headline...

But never miss a chance to criticise, but it's typical - far too many farangs think it will affect them - even though it has f all to do with them.

I believe his name is mentioned in the OP as one of the landowners.

Edit - from the original article linked in the OP (my bold):

Quote

53 were issued in the name of Mrs. Somporn for 308.8 hectares, 5 were issued in the name of Ms. Chanaphan for 21.12 hectaresand 2 in the name of Thanathorn for 12.96 hectares.  Most of the land is planted with eucalyptus trees.

Try reading the article linked in the OP. He is mentioned as the owner of some of the land in question.

As for f all to do with me - I live here, and intend to live here for years to come. You may or may not have preferences and views with regard to local politics or how they may effect your life, that's your call.

Now, say you lived in the province and a certain neighboring chicken farm was a nuisance. Or the Bangkok rich picking up lands which weren't supposed to be sold, thereby raising land price in the neighboring areas. Just a couple of examples.

Adisorn also said that several land and local administration officials were allegedly involved in the illegal issuance of the Nor Sor 3 Kor land ownership documents.

If government officials issued the fake documents surely the government would be accountable and he could sue them??

Yeah, but the officials aren't a thorn in the side of the current cowboy politicians, whereas Thanathon is....

Obviously. But then again, not holding my breath.

Is it a coincidence that it has only now been noticed that the ownership is illegal?  Is there a mass survey of all land and how it has been acquired since the 1932 overthrow of the monarchy?

Who is keeping a black book on all the illegal deals of potential rivals or partners (so they can be squeezed later)?  It cannot be a note book, perhaps the equivalent of a whole shelf in the British Library.  The question is how many Thais have not been involved in illegals transactions?  I would have thought none.

Or a deck of illegally imported playing cards.

I understand the "government" is frightened of any opposition but honestly, this sort of thing will simply feed into the 'rinse/repeat' Thai political "cycle".
