But then I can take some comfort in that as a western country it could have been worse watching the circus and outright racism and corruption of the US for the last four and a bit years. The USA is not involved in this issue, except in your mind, which seemingly is grasping for a relationship. Western, Texas hat? Haven't a clue where it was made or styled after. If he would work on a construction site they would make him wear safety gear(gloves, hardhat, safety shoes) in traffic he will have to wear a seatbelt and on a motorbike he would have to wear a helmet! This is also a workplace so there may be a dress code. I remember the Dutch prins Bernhard who took of his tie and shocked every one but that is another topic. Safety gear, seatbelts, helmets serve a purpose - ties don't. And your Bernie shocking everyone ? - twice, second time with Lockheed....

I am not dishing Mr Waititi and certainly do not want to take away any rights he has but is he going home at night driving a car and once home turns on the electric light or is that also to western for him? 1

Yes, that is what I remember from my years fruit picking and tramping in godzone. Also, but completely off topic, they speak neutral English, without the UK accent.

mfd101
When I was a child in the NZ of the 1950s-60s, wearing a hat indoors was considered bad manners. Clearly they haven't been keeping up standards!

Mmmm, the last time I was in NZ on a short visit about 4 or 5 years ago, what was quite striking was (1) Chinese tourists everywhere and (2) the food & coffee was - for the first time ever - as good as the food in Oz. And splendid cafes everywhere. Wonderful! Unfortunately, in what remains of my NZ family, the food hadn't changed since the 1960s. Inedible as ever. Regardless of what you or I think the rules of the NZ Parliament are a necktie must be worn. That is when he applied his clueless western racist symbolism. If he doesn’t like the rules then petition for change as the democratic system that brought him to his privileged position allows him to do instead of pushing his constant carryons with western racism and white privilege. If a necktie must be worn, can you explain why these two MPs were not criticised and ejected? 4

I'll get back to you on that if I can remember; memory not what it used to be. Being an old hippie myself, the ants will leave me alone. The smell alone should keep them away. It's the young aggressive ones I despise. You may not believe me but I was in college at Rutgers University in New Brunswick NJ in 1969 when I heard and met Dr. Timothy Leary, Abbie Hoffman, and Jerry Rubin (Chicago Seven) speak. I even have a book signed by Rubin saying I'm an enemy of the state for buying his book. Trips to NY city, Atlantic City Pop Festival, Woodstock, etc. I'll never forget Janice Joplin coming to the stage at Atlantic City festival with her bottle of Southern Comfort and telling the audience she needed something to smoke before she sang. The stage was deluged with a rain of joints! Yep, even busted by the Princeton NJ cops, not the least impressed by my youthful handsomeness, for possession on the drive home. Good times. Of all the things I've lost in life I think I miss my mind the most. 2
