Maybe this topic was already covered here but couldn't find an answer to my problem. I am running windows 10 Pro and to avoid unnecessary comments on that, Yes I already use the back up that comes with it, also did a backup with 3rd party software (Easus Todo) and all appears to be OK but I like the old way of backing up using the option Windows 10 has to allow for a Backup & Restore win7 style but here is the problem.

I can not use that service (Backup and Restore (Windows7)) as it gives me an error saying ""The Last Backup did not complete successfully "" but I haven't done any recent back up using that service. Also another error indicates a ""Last backup date as 10/27/2020"" which is incorrect as that back up has been deleted long time ago.

I visited Microsoft site to find a solution as it indicates an error 0x81000019,  they advise to remove any schedule, clean history files, logs and so forth, all done, restarted the laptop 4-5 times as instructed and yet the error still there and not allow me to use that service for backup, it starts to back up but 15-20 seconds later the error pops up and it says ""A shadow copy could not be created. Please check  VSS and SPP application event logs for more information. Details: insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data""

My external Seagate HD has 938 MG free of space, have reformatted it, virus scanned and all is ok, am I suppose to create some partitions on it or the backup software is to do it.

Thanks for the feed back

You wrote "938 MG".  Do you mean 938 GB?   My Win10 systems backups require about 80 GB storage using AOMEI (which I find very easy to use and takes about an hour).  Sorry have no remaining knowledge of Win7 as brain space is starting to produce errors.

sorry for the typo, that's correct 938 GB but bought as supposedly 1 TB.... I don't have Aomei, do have EaseUs but do prefer the windows interface of win7, also don't think this is a win7 error but most likely my OS which is Win10.... anyway thanks for detecting the size typo

HD space is always lower than what sold as.  AOMEI is free software if you want to download and try it - really simple and easy to use for the system backups I do to external HD.  Have never had to use to restore (and Windows is now built to fix itself in most cases) but it is highly rated and an extra fall back.  It can do much more than I use it for.

I just had to do a clean re-install of Win 10 (don't ask), and decided to forsake aomei for Minitool Partition Wizard, it does a few handy things the other doesn't.

For backups I'm sticking with Macrium Reflect, which I started using 5 years ago when I bought a new laptop with Win 10 (Asus factory installed).  I really like that Reflect lets me mount and explore the backup images, and yeah, I know some other products allow the same.  Can't comment on incremental backups, they're against my religion

The free versions of both suit me fine.  Never used Win backup nor Win recovery points.

For the first time ever I communicated directly with MS tech support.  It seems when the going gets rough their solution to the problem is to re-install.

Amazing how useless MS tech support is. On their support forums, other users sometimes manage to come up with real answers to problems.

Can't agree more.  I spent a week chasing an inability to upgrade in-place (keep settings and apps) with an arcane error code.  I couldn't tell you how many responses I found on the net that  were from MS techs instructing to do the things the person already said they did, like download the ISO, build the USB installer, etc: USELESS!

On the other hand I finally got through to someone on the phone who elevated my case (took most of a day) and I was told error code meant something was wrong with my installation and the installation shut itself down to avoid self-destruct (though they didn't use those words).   I could have done a clean re-install and then spent a day getting things back to what I want but instead pursued a one-week hobby.  On the other hand nearly 5 years without having to do a complete reinstall is a personal record.

Regular backups, folks.  If you find you don't need to use it be happy.

once you do a back up using  AOMEI Premium keep it for a week or a month and later do a back up again, will it be a NEW back up or just updates the files that were changed during the period between the back ups... I look at the software and it appears to be a friendly interface easy to use, maybe better then my EaseUs Todo

In the case of system backup it is a total new backup with date and consecutive number.  In my case about 80GB.  Try to do each week and only keep two on file - easy to delete within or outside software after make the 3rd delete oldest.

thought would give you some feed back how to use Aomei Backupper and not having to do backups on regular basis, you need to do an initial backup and after that just do incremental backups, meaning only backing up the files that changed between the dates you do the backup and the incremental backup, very simple and works fine, here is the web site to help you

Thanks - have made enough room on backup drive so doing full backup now and will use that (updated) rather than system backups.  Again seems very easy.
