BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has urged the Ministry of Labor to promote employment and skills development among informal workers, who are key contributors to the economy despite being paid less and being uninsured.

At the meeting of the National Informal Workers Management Committee and the National Workforce Development and Skills Training Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan was informed of the latest number of workers in the country, where 20.4 million out of the entire 37.9 million employed persons are informal workers.

The DPM said informal workers are key contributors to the country’s economy, however they receive less protection and welfare in terms of health and security than formal workers, with many of them underpaid and not insured with Social Security.

He has urged related agencies to take better care of these workers, especially by promoting their skills development.

The committees have agreed to assign the Ministry of Labor and related agencies to accelerate the process of aid campaigns and compensation for informal workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the demands received.

The government has so far provided assistance and launched campaigns based on the workers’ demands, such as providing better access to the working from home fund, assistance to informal workers in public works, and employment promotion for new graduates.

So, how do we improve the "employment skills" of the local bar worker? They had been a great contributor to the economy, but nobody gives a damn about them...

He wants them to be promoted, well start first with a guaranteed living wage, then give them benefits such as social security, and a pension, make them like all of the government cronies.  Time Thailand became a socialist republic...lol

As Prawit would have it, Promote them, give them better jobs, and use their experience, but do not pay them more money or give them benefits, just use them and abuse them before a rinse and recycle venture, this way your government folks can sit back feed at the trough and do as little as possible while the informal workers make your economy work better and you reap the rewards.  Great Solution.
