A few questions please.

1. Being a cheap skate and having a 3 HP contractor and thermal overload, I want to use it for a 1 HP irrigation pump.  My thinking is that if the pump fails, the current will head towards S/C and trip the pump. I can set the thermal overload to 11 A.

Wrong thinking?

2. Why don't 300 W pumps seem to be set up with a contactor and thermal overload? Maybe they have a relay or contactor but no a thermal overload.

Wrong observation?

3. For an 85 W submersible pump, how would you protect It?
