Unusual requirement: Need to rent chain guard (Triumph BB)

Featured Replies

Greetings,

In order to pass the Land Transport inspection, I need to have a chain guard fitted. I don't have the OEM part and it will take 3 weeks to get it here in Phuket. Fabricating a cheap knock-off is also an option but requires more misery than it's worth -- finding a shop that understands and is then be able to execute in a timely fashion. So, if anyone has one kicking around and is willing to lend / rent it for half a day, I'd be very happy to hear from you.

Cheers,

Local bike shop. Take a few pictures from Interweb. th?id=OIP.qsqKxrUZMhhwcA-jr8EpvwAAAA%26p

They will knock something up in a few hours, if you find the right store. It only has to work once.

There may even be a local bike with the chain on the right?

Triumph want to sell you some OEM or branded high priced stuff.

Give this to local shop?

When I go to do the inspection, they just let me put one on the bike right there and then (without screws), just for the picture. Then I take it off and I'm done with it for another year.

baffling , every thai boy in country seems to immediately rip off mirrors , chain guard , rear plastic fender , even on larger bikes ???? these extra precautions for guests . well , i'm off to apply those bullet-hole decals just came in

Thanks for the suggestions.

Got it handled. Local metal shop banged up a cheap piece following my diagram and measurements. A quick fit on the bike and I was on my way. Sprayed it the same day. Brought it along with a couple of tools (back of the wife's car) this morning. Stuck it on in the parking lot and rode over to do the inspection. Twenty minutes later, having passed with no issue, I pulled it off, threw back in the car and rode home. It's butt-ugly but hey, wadda ya want for 500 baht.20210224_112101.jpg.6fcefeb78c87131e75427ed45bf876f3.jpg

Looks good. Being a cheapskate I'd have gone with half a cable raceway and 2 cable ties.

I had the exact same problem during the inspection before a tax disk could be issued.

Bought a very cheap chain guard that served it's purpose for about twenty minutes.
