Immigration latest: Visa agent busted in Nakhon Pathom - migrant smuggling gang nabbed

Thailand's chief of immigration Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang replaced the usually salubrious surroundings of his Suan Phlu headquarters in  Bangkok for a room at Chonburi immigration for the weekly press briefing. 

 

Gone were the commandos toting high powered rifles and men in white hazmat suits. But there were still plenty of vinyl boards and Sompong had his handy pointing stick.

 

Case number one was a visa agent who had tricked a company owner and 20 migrant workers in Nakhon Pathom.

 

Immigration investigated after a social media post and found out that the agent had taken 120,000 baht in fees promising visas would be expedited. 

 

However, the victims were left disappointed when the agent said he was unable to get what they wanted - and he was keeping their money.

 

A warrant for the agent's arrest was issued but immigration had problems finding the agent as he (presumably a he as no details were given) kept moving around.

 

He was staked out and eventually arrested, however. Immigration are trying to get the money back for the victims.

 

In the other case two Thai men called Weeraphat, 45, and Chuchart, 58, were arrested in Khok Sung district of Sa Kaeo in the east of Thailand.

They were in two pick-ups with roofs on the back transporting 12 illegal Cambodian migrant workers.

 

Weeraphat had picked up seven from Samut Prakan and Chuchart had brought five from Chonburi.

 

They were on their way to deliver them to a Cambodian agent at the border where they would get the next consignment of illegals.

If not Illegal Visas is enough now trying People smuggling. Must have forgot to give the Monthly bones to his Compadre in Imm.
