Here is a link for that one. I think the people that are knocking the beautiful cars on this thread have never actually driven an Aussie muscle car and likely come from Europe with their little 2 little buzz boxes.

 

The car pictured above was the fastest 4 door car in the world at the time. They don’t know what are missing.

Not much love here for the Australian classics. I did think Toranas and pretty much anything after the mid 70's were nothing special. By 1978  things got super boring appearance wise with the box like Commodores and such.

My first car was an 1973 XB Ford I had in the 80's. Not that amazing but a nice 6. My father bought a classic GT Ford new in the early 70's when I was a kid. It had a good rumble. Sold it a year or two later. 

Moving along we have the earlier model commodores.

2 door coupes are the real prize when it comes to muscle cars.  That’s why you never saw a 4 door Cobra, Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, GT40, etc etc etc.

 

And no...I’m not a European.  I’m American although I did have an ‘88 911 and a ‘96 993.  Even the 4 door Porsches (Panamara) are hideous.

My 928s pictured below. My brother and dad have those little 6 cylinder 911 things with rough ride. 
Even they agree my 928 is better to drive. And faster.

Ok...back to ugly Aussie cars.  The 928 was butt ugly too.  The S4 was barely passable.

What I call  “Shiela’s cars”.

This one will probably be your cup of tea. 
Ford Capri. We exported them to the USA as well as Thailand where they were more popular than in Oz. 
 

 

Or maybe the older model Capri.

It was a Mercury in the US.   Horrible cars.  I’m not sure how you can compare those to a 911...arguably the most successful sports car in history (except for the 996...bleh)

I never would have guessed.

A few Fairlanes.

The Aussie built ones, not the unreliable USA ones that were quickly discontinued.

And still going strong 50 years later.

The Aussie cortina had a 4.1 liter six out of the Falcon and a 3.3 liter for the ladies.

My mate had a four door monaro. It was a great car.

The last Holdens exported to Thailand were the VY and VZ Commodores/Calais. 
They were badged as Chev Luminas in Thailand as in a few other export markets. No V8s, the 3.8 sixes were taxed heavily despite the FTA for their motor size.

If you want to buy one the VY is older, but the better choice. The VZ has timing chain sloppiness that most Thai mechanics will struggle with.

English mate of mine bought a VK Holden when they first became available. Manufactured locally from imported CKD kits. Sold it to a kiwi mate who traded it in for the VL when they came on the market. Nice rides, great family cars. I see a well-kept VL regularly up here in Udon.

 

My experience in Australia was limited to Hertz rentals and usually they were XD Falcons but one time I got a VL Calais and thought that was really nice.

googling 'Ford Cortina four' came up with surprisingly relevant detailed info on the wiki link 

 - but in short:  "...Ford Australia built its own version, known as the TE, with the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Pinto unit and the Ford Falcon's 3.3-litre and 4.1-litre 6-cylinder unit..."

the VL came with the Nissan 3.0 Strait Six; as a temporary filler until the next model, a complete redesigned VN was given the upcoming 3.8Vsix, which was from a Buick stable design.  Mates working within their AMI-related Conversions factory at Essendon; were attending a Buick Collectors Meet sometime 1986, when one of the aussies quipped about putting the Buick into a Holden to see how it would go?... and they did!   Not really surprisingly, the same motor appeared in the VN ????
