After being on COVID ext.—is it even possible to switch to an "extension based on working"?

Featured Replies

For those whose visa have long-since expired (SETV/VE stamp, ED visa), and who got on COVID extensions after that...

- Is it even possible to switch from COVID extensions to "extensions based on working"?
- Does the fact that the initial visa expired many months before affect getting "extensions based on working"?

Your original permit to stay you got could of been from a tourist visa or visa exempt or a non immigrant visa.

Extending your permit to stay does not change the visa category used for entry to the country. A visas expiration date means nothing after you use it to enter the country.

A non immigrant visa entry cannot be changed to a different category of it. A tourist visa or visa exempt entry can be changed to a non immigrant visa at immigration.

If you already have a non immigrant visa entry it could be possible to apply for the extension with all the correct supporting documents from a employer.

If you entered visa exempt or on a tourist visa you would have to apply for a non-b visa before you could apply for the extension.

Thanks, ubonjoe.
I'm considering going through the whole process (which will require finding a job and preparing all the needed documents).
Have seen any reports of people successfully changing from COVID ext. to "extension based on working"?
