Pattaya media Sophon Cable TV interviewed an advisor to the business and tourism association regarding tourism prospects at the resort.

Sinchai Wattanasatsathorn said that at present tourist numbers were similar to last year but things were gradually improving.

He called the number of people seen on Pattaya and Jomtien beaches this past weekend as a "good sign" that things were improving.

Regarding hotels he said that they were showing a 30-40% increased occupancy though he conceded that most of this was in five star hotels who were offering four star prices.

The real problems for hotel owners were those in the three star bracket though even there things were on the mend.

He said that plans for the Area Hotel Quarantine - where foreign tourists will be able to leave their rooms after three days of incarceration to enjoy the grounds - would be a further positive step.

The plans were at least an improvement on 14 day quarantine in rooms.

He said that it is important that vaccinations progress as quickly as possible to achieve 70% coverage of the Thai population and that the private sector was willing to play their part in paying for some of this.

If numbers now are similar as last year ie 12 months ago, then surely things are much the same & not improving?

Their won't be a lot of European tourists this year.

Europe in the middle of a 3rd wave. See France and Germany.

Forget about that Europeans will travel.

In case they are allowed to go on a trip, it will be to Mallorca, Portugal, Spain, Greece.

This deluded chap is obviously talking about domestic tourists who visit Pattaya on high days & holidays and who rarely sit on the beach.

Europeans will certainly not return to a place populated by packs of wild dogs; where the air quality verges on the hazardous; with riots on the street and a police force that only appears to brutalise the pro-democracy students.

No riots on Pattaya streets last night!

Going to be a long, hard slog to get back to pre-covid numbers.

There must have been some error during translation....surely?

He is right. Last year on 16th of march, there were 15 tourists, this year, 16.

That's indeed an improvement.
