BANGKOK (NNT) - The government spokesman has revealed that some changes will be made to the national COVID-19 vaccination program, to suit the changing situation better. So far more than 60 thousand people have had their first jabs.

 

Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the government has, so far, distributed COVID-19 vaccines to 13 first-priority provinces in the first stage of vaccine rollout, with 116,520 doses of China’s Sinovac Biotech being the main type, plus 10,000 doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine.

 

Mr. Anucha said there is currently a plan to distribute more doses of Sinovac’s vaccine to Bangkok and Samut Sakhon, while the situation of COVID-19 cases nationwide is being monitored, to enable adjustments to be made to the vaccination program.

 

The government’s vaccination target still remains 60% Thailand’s population, or at about 31.5 million people.

 

So far, 62,941 people have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, from either Sinovac or AstraZeneca, between 28 February and 19 March.

 

Currently, the vaccine is being given to health workers, village health volunteers, officers with exposure to the patients, those with chronic diseases, the over 60s and villagers in high-risk areas.

 

The first batches of COVID-19 vaccines arriving in Thailand consisted of 317,000 doses, 200,000 of which were from Sinovac, plus 117,600 doses from AstraZeneca. These vaccines have already been tested and certified by the Department of Medical Sciences.

 

Another 800,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine have just arrived in the country, which will be followed by one million more in April. Thailand is expected to have an increased vaccine supply from AstraZeneca from June.

 

At the vaccination appointment, the vaccine recipient will have a basic physical examination, including weight and blood pressure checks, as part of the risk assessment, before signing the consent form and receiving the jab.

 

After the inoculation, recipients will be asked to take a rest for 30 minutes while being observed for any adverse reactions, then they will receive an appointment card for their second dose.

I'm beginning to get the feeling you are more likely to die of old age than a vaccination letter in Thailand

So by my calculation they are currently sitting on over one million doses of vaccine, time to start getting into peoples arms, or are they waiting for "funds" to distribute it?

Well get on with it then.

The deepest Thai wishy-washy political bureaucracy continues to delay the "roll out".

60,000 in 3 weeks...... What a pathetic effort,  how long will it take to vaccinate the population, I understand now why they only plan on vacciating 60% ... Because the other 40% will have passed away before getting a jab. 

   Another day, another useless news blurb with more useless information on what they are planning, planning, planning for this so far tiny amount of vaccine.  We could do this,. We could do that.  We may do this.  We may do that.   My lord, this miniscule shipment has certainly been talked to death--and planned to death.  Stop the endless talk and ramp up the shipments and ramp up the distribution.  They seem to be way behind even with their very modest goals.     

Sounds like management speak for......"oops...we don't actually have a plan"

Could be that they're waiting for confirmation that the PM is available for the official ceremony for dispatch of the boxes. And need enough time to make all the bunting and pin it to the walls and tables. And enough time for the tailors to make new dress uniforms for the ceremony...

This should be interesting in the future when a vaccine is required for travel and to enter some facilities like government offices or malls, but you must sign a consent form.  Which means that you are signing a consent under duress.

I may be misreading Thailand's vaccination efforts, but it seems that the government is all over the board on the distribution of vaccines.  The article that appeared in the Bangkok Post on Saturday outlining the proposed program up to 01 October was of little help.  And, the reference to those coming from countries suffering with the Covid 'variants' having to still quarantine for 14 days, makes no sense.  Does Thailand really believe that one of the variants will not make its way here?  The tourism industry will never recover at this pace.  The government needs to mount a far greater effort to accelerate vaccination efforts to get the country back to work.

What does the anti-vaxxer signing a consent form to enter a gov't. office achieve?

 

Surely it should be the other way around; an authorized officer (from the gov't. agency of mall operator signing a consent form to allow the anti- vaxxer to enter?

Any why would they do that:

- Gov't. agency or mall operator has a policy that all people entering must been vaccinated (to some extent to protect the workers in that building).

- But someone can sign a consent form for them to enter. So what happens next:

• Could it be that the anti-vaxxer must now wear a mask, to give some protection to the staff in the building, or what?
• And what would be the criteria be to make a decision to give consent to enter?  -Perhaps a very recent negative swab report?
• Or perhaps it's just sign it to avoid any confrontation, and at the same time making a mockery of good rules and regulations?

Plus right now and into the near future nowhere near enough vaccine being bought and local manufacture seems to be problematic.  All meaning a lack of planning and action. 

Think the "development" they'll have to adapt to will be COVID-24.

 

 

It is amazing that these government dinosaurs think they're living in the good old days, and that the masses believe this sort of jibberish.

Hamsters? Read the article again, says the drug is in use and has been for some time with successful results for other ailments.
