Who knew?

Sunshine Shoulders an American expat youtuber in the Philippines has hereby proclaimed it.

(I used to think he was saying Sunshine Soldiers which would make sense considering the number of U S. veterans in Southeast Asia.)

I like his energy. I like his attitude. However I think he's overly optimistic. He's promoting the idea that expats should have fellow expat's backs when they get in trouble abroad.

In my experience the vast majority of expats feel the opposite -- that if you're failing as an expert its your own darn problem and your own darn fault.

But in any case -- Happy International Expats Day!

Sounds good - but with this caveat ...

In all my travels I have only ever been ripped off by a fellow expat

Lesson learned

Well, if you knew me, I wouldn't rip you off in any way.

In my travels, the lesson I have learned is that everybody is different!

Expat defined in Thai:

An outsider who doesn't shower and wears dirty clothes, is forever a national security risk, and needs to be constantly monitored, and once a year subject to an investigation in an attempt to find a cause to kick the outsider back out of Thailand.

WE had a great idea to order some custom vests marked FOREIGNER like the smart looking vests various Thai govt agencies have.  A velcro patch attachment with one could display the flag one ones country.

Some provinces may wish to make them compulsory.

Or perhaps mandatory FOREIGNER t-shirts?

Don't expect the government to arrange a Mardi Gras style parade, with Sukhumvit road closed for all night dancing anytime soon.

Aw shucks. I had already booked the block of rooms. Life is so cruel.
