BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the turmoil in Myanmar has not yet reached a level as to require an immediate evacuation of Thai people, and no Thai had been harmed by the political turmoil after the recent coup.

 

Ministry spokesman Thani Saengrat said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon had already prepared a plan to evacuate Thai people, and the situation was assessed every day.

 

He said the Royal Thai Embassy and Team Thailand in Yangon have held meetings to discuss the situation continuously, including improvements for evacuating Thai people in accordance with current events and with great care.

 

Mr. Thani added that if the situation rises to another level, the Thai authority has already prepared every step. Myanmar has already recommended that those without major activities in Myanmar should consider returning to their country by commercial aircraft. However, no country has yet informed or asked to evacuate all of its nationals.

Well I would think if the Myanmar folks are fleeing for their lives across the borders, and the Myanmar Military is bombing locations in the South east indiscriminately, that the evacuation would be very urgent.  Only thing I can think of is those Thai folks just are not important to this government.

Are you trying to say that the Thai Junta is living vicariously through the actions of their Myanmar Military brethren and wishing they could do the same here.

this is a perfect example of the state of leadership in current thailand; the idea is to get them out BEfore they get harmed; not just make excuses before and after

No Thais have been injured...... Yet, 

It's a war zone in Myanmar, and Thai citizens need to be evacuated ASAP. 

myanmar is in the brink of the civil war.

violence is escalating daily, now with military aircrafts bombing border areas. Tribal militias attacking border outposts, withdrawing from ceasefires and declaring association with political opposition.

 

thai foreign ministry deliberately is trying downplay seriousness of situation, so they don't have to take open stance against this violence.

they just pretend everything is good and in order.

behind the back of they are supplying the myanmar army with rice and possible the other supplies, with probability of arms.

 

there are reports, that the other way large stocks of drugs are coming to thailand and though thailand southern provinces further and to the rest of asia.  

as in the past, since the second war, border police and army are participating in those drug operations, so their interest is in prolonging civil war in myanmar and fuelling it.

Exactly.  I doubt that hookers in Tachileik are a bombing target.  Boom-boom targets?  Perhaps.

I've been in countries during times where governments and media were warning they were 'war zones.'  Often the violence and social upheaval are localized and in the rest of the country it is business as usual.

That reminds me of a friend from long time ago who made holiday in Yugoslavia at war time.

He said the same, and he liked it because they had great prices for tourists at that time.
