BKK flood situation is in crisis

Bangkok’s flood situation is in crisis due to high level of sea water. State authorities have been urged to lay sandbags along dams, and warned people living near the Chao Praya (เจ้าพระยา) River to stay vigilant of flash flood.

Deputy Director-General of Department of Drainage and Sewerage, Sanya Chinimit (สัญญา ชีนิมิต), informed that last night’s sea water level remained at 1.95 meter, causing flood in 14 low areas including Pracharat (ประชาราษฎร์), Samsen (สามเสน), Charansanitwong (จรัญสนิทวงศ์), Tharatchworadit (ท่าราชวรดิษฐ์), and Chareonkrung (เจริญกรุง).

Deputy BKK Gov believes Chao Phraya waters will stop rising by 21:40 tonight

The Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Dr. Wanlop Suwandee, is conducting inspections of water barriers along the Chao Phraya River following a drastic increase in the river's water levels.

Dr. Wanlop reports that the Chao Phraya River water level has risen to 1.92-1.95 meters from sea level, causing minor flooding of riverside residence. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is currently constructing sandbag barriers to prevent further flooding. City officials will be patrolling 14 high risk areas at 21:00 tonight (May 18) to ensure that water levels do not threaten homes.

The Bangkok Deputy Governor reveals that water levels are expected to stabilize at 1.90 meters by 21:40. Residents living on the Chao Phraya riverbanks and the Bangkok Noi area are asked to prepare for evacuation to higher elevation, as well as ensure that electrical appliances do not come into contact with flood water.
