Having had over a year to prepare for a worst-case scenario in the event of a 2nd, 3rd or 4th wave, it's sadly evident that those in charge blithely (and blindly) just assumed it wouldn't possibly happen.

The "preparation" is thus proving woefully inadequate.

There was early phase success. But that's over. How do you say resting on your laurels in Thai? In any case welcome to dystopian Thailand. This shirt just got real.

They worked pretty hard at their 'zero covid' plan, same with Cambodia. I guess the mutant is smarter.

Should I regret my decision to return here?

What's the protocol for leaving? Are there forms to fill out, special flights to take?  Thank you.

Everybody thinking and asking "Why the sudden rise in Covid cases and the 3rd wave?" or do people know why, but wish to ignore simple facts. It's because of SONGKRAN! So, So predictable this would happen. Are people and the government so fickle?

it was yet before songkran when infections started to jump by 100% and by hundreds.

reaching thousand during songkran and hovering over 2k post-songkran.

still way to go, symptoms can show many weeks after infection.

So now left is  lengthy lockdown and waiting for vax.

They had chance to stop the 3rd wave on 5th april

Probably not.  Now I wonder:  I truly love the public markets where I bought vegetables.  I agree that the King's shops are great, but in Ch Mai they're limited.  Now: if a public market is outdoors & has no seafood or meat stalls, do you think they'd be safe for fruit & veg?  Thank you.
